Oh no! The previous thread has become full and suddenly we need a new one, with no way of linking old to new. I hope people will find this one. :)

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome.

Ophelia, you're on - I've put you above the line where 'here be dragons' as otherwise it's only DAISY and me representing the North of England, with Formerly technically on the right latitude but in another country Grin If you live just south of the line, I'm moving the line down!

I'm surprised to hear Chester is short on wool shops, I would have thought it'd have a few naice places.

I'm off today to my 'knitting with colour' workshop so I am insanely excited to learn how I've been doing it wrong all this time.

Morning all.

I don't do FB. Maybe I should start so that I can have some friends? Perhaps a bad poetry group ...

Squares in the post to Knotty. Not very good (on profile) ... But they can go in an unregarded corner somewhere.

Sadly, I'm sure that there will be another blanket soon enough :( When there is ... Does anyone have a link to some double-sided stitch patterns?

tribpot · 03/07/2012 06:26

Look no further than Hogwarts bookmarks Rosie! Elephant, Heart, prize for best name ever goes to Hönkä!

The elephant looks just lovely Trib ...

I don't know if I have any the skills ...

There is endless, soggy, grey drizzle in this here London. It's JULY!

tribpot · 03/07/2012 06:53

Does this help, Rosie? Or ?

It actually is sunny here, but this is only a temporary aberration.

LackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2012 08:31

Wassup Pidj? Or is that just at the state of the british weather?

Squares look great Rosie....and Pru is gorgeous!

I've not taken pics of any of my squares :( I should have really.

PurplePidjin · 03/07/2012 08:47

I'm not in the farcebook gang Sad

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 03/07/2012 08:52

We shall have our own quiche pidj :)
Dd2 is still asleep, it is some small miracle. Am quietly on MN on my phone, it seems too good to last much longer though. Have been awake since 6.30. Stupid circaidian rhythm.

PurplePidjin · 03/07/2012 09:07

PidjChick woke me at half five kicking, but i managed to doze till seven. It's all good practice

LackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2012 13:10

I'm on fb, but not in any MN gang (apart from one long running chat thread between me and four others who I "met" on a support thread here aeons ago, but I can't even remember their MN names any more!). I do have a smattering of MNers on my friends list though and always welcome more :o

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/07/2012 00:54

I am very sorry for mentioning FB.

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 04/07/2012 06:27

It does seem to have killed the conversation Smile Does anyone one have any exciting knitting news to report? I finally bought a set of double sided needles and it has imported my I cord technique and time no end Grin yes I am STILL knitting windmill bags

tribpot · 04/07/2012 06:48

double-sided, Dances? I'm assuming double pointed rather than some brand new knitting invention :) Yes, they will help immeasurably for the icord handles at which you now excel!

Although I haven't started it yet, the cardigan I want to do features an i-cord cast on, which looks lovely, if pretty time-consuming!

Smile You know, I am a firm believer that personal Facebook and Mumsnet should be kept separately, at least on the open threads. Not everyone has Facebook, and lots of folk on here need to keep anonymous for a whole raft of reasons, so they may feel left out by any FB conversation. None of us would ever want anyone feeling excluded. There was once a conversation about moving the Mumsnet blankets onto FB, but they just need to be run through Mumsnet so that all can participate, and if you want to follow WH on our community Facebook page or Twitter you can do so and still remain anonymous. I haven't a clue who most people are on there! Woolly Hugs is warm and woolly and inclusive innit.

As for knitting news, I don't really have any, but one of my crochet squares started unravelling in the middle. Better to do it now rather than when Knotty had hooked it into Matilda's blanket, but I am having to start again, so have missed the deadline Blush There I have confessed Grin

In Other News, tis still raining, really hard this morning.

Brew

We've not had a Rosie poem recently have we?

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 04/07/2012 07:01

yes yes Grin

do you do an i-cord cast on that same as an icord cast off, but in reverse? It must be very pretty.

PurplePidjin · 04/07/2012 07:09

Can anyone recommend some of them swanky needles with the points you can change and the wiggly string in between? I'd like to get some for my MIL for her birthday but am somewhat ignorant!

tribpot · 04/07/2012 07:23

Dances - you basically knit three stitches over and over, adding one extra each time (but only knitting that one once). Zzzzz. But lovely.

Pidj - I have this set, which is fab. But not cheap. Is your MIL a big knitter, or would a starter kit be better? The Symfonie starter set looks good. The Cubics needles are becoming more popular, you can also buy them in a set or they're widely available individually.

They also do an acrylic set (that's the beginner, here's the pro).

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 04/07/2012 07:57

She's a fantastic knitter, very experienced. A nice set is the kind of thing she'd appreciate but never waste money on for herself iyswim - which to my mind is the best kind of present!

tribpot · 04/07/2012 08:07

Cool. Well, I think the actual sets are lovely but you could always go with, say, 3 needle sizes and 2 cords to see if she likes them, and then build up in pieces. The only real convenience of the set is that you have all the needle sizes you could want to hand (although I've bought various 3mm size ones to supplement) and in a bag. The cubics are meant to be fab, and with being a bit different it might make them seem more 'gifty' if you know what I mean!

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 04/07/2012 08:11

I think the starter set with 4, 5 and 6mm would be enough, then add to it for christmas and future birthdays if she liked it. Thank you Thanks

Jules146 · 04/07/2012 18:40

Thanks for your advice/help... I do chain up before a tr and ch 1 before turning... Think Im just very loose Blush I am hoping it will all improve as I make more... I will persevere

Jules146 · 04/07/2012 18:40

And I just posted on wrong thread Blush

tribpot · 04/07/2012 19:20

Well now we've been treated to your confession that you're very loose, Jules146 Wink Shock

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 04/07/2012 19:41

Jules, you can join Pistey in the Loose Hooker Club :o

Glaikit · 04/07/2012 19:49

Oh no! Now I want one of those sets!! I'm going to be bankrupt soon.

Although its my birthday next month...... ignores the fact that I've just bought tickets to Jesus Christ superstar "for my birthday"
