We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Morning Brew Really must make a start today Blush I'll be fine when I've cast on but need a bit of piece and quiet to do that. Not a lot of that in this house at the moment

tribpot · 16/06/2012 08:17

Morning Brew.
MOS I'm exactly the same as you - need some peace & quiet to get started which isn't always easy to get but it's the only way! I'm crocheting not knitting but it takes all my concentration - little kid pokey tongue out and everything when I'm trying hard Grin.

PippiL · 16/06/2012 11:04

Some lovely champagne coloured wool arrived today. Thank you donor.

Knitting simple bee stitch.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/06/2012 12:40

Good news that more wool is arriving Smile

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/06/2012 16:20

my hook is flying through my wool supplies! :)
one square done and another 3/4 of the way through. although that has meant i haven't done any housework today. Blush

a big thanks to dd who had a mega nap this morning and to dh this afternoon for taking the dc out and about. peace and quiet is essential for me too - mostly because the dc like to tangle the wool Hmm

TimeForCake · 16/06/2012 19:01

Swear words and more swear words! My square was coming on far too well. I got over confident, stopped measuring every row & failed to notice my rows were getting a smidge shorter as I went along. I've missed an end stitch on an early row. Bugger.
Nothing like a bit of frogging on a Saturday evening! Grin

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 19:20

Whenis, get a jamjar and drill a hole in the lid, 5mm should do and you might need to smoothe the edges with a file. Poke your wool through the hole and screw the lid on tight. Gaffa tape shut if necessary. Voila, childproof wool :o

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 19:21

Time for, one less stitch per row will hardly notice!

droitwichmummy · 16/06/2012 19:26

After lots of frogging I've got into the swing of my snowdrops. I'm doing a star as well which will need a plain square to attach to.
Father's day and our anniversary tomorrow so I ought to pay DH some attention!

MinnieBar · 16/06/2012 20:11

Back from our washed-out hols to find a small mountain of Boden catalogues, usual bank statements and? a lovely ball of the Sublime wool in a gorgeous mossy green from a kind and generous donor Lincs way. And addressed to 'The Mumsnetter of the House' which made me Grin

Thank you, I will do my utmost to make some lovely squares with it and will try to do you proud Smile

RedRosie · 16/06/2012 20:23

Welcome home Minnie.

How's DS's little arm?

MinnieBar · 16/06/2012 20:26

Much better thanks Rosie - he still doesn't have full range of movement, and last night he kept waking up and crying when he rolled over onto it, but I think that's all to be expected.

So glad to be home!

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 20:36

Welcome back, Minnie! Can you wedge a pillow somewhere so he's restricted in his rolling?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/06/2012 21:14

Pidj the jam jar is genius! :)

I have finished my squares! Grin
I've done an attic24 pattern for this one here and an attic24 ripple here it's meant to be like the land and the sea so pidj if you have any spare boats.... :)
I have a bit of green left over so I might try making some leaves Confused
I luff attic24 as she has pictures. :)

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 21:25

Ooh, yes, i can do boats. I posted my boat pattern upthread if anyone fancies making boats - can be sent unattached to be added to the flotilla if you like (and avoid blending in with the background too much Wink)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/06/2012 21:32

Pidj that'd be fab!
The odds and ends donor wool I got was all lovely blues and greens. :) there is very very little left. I'll have a look at the boat pattern pidj but all I have left is green so maybe not a very boat-y colour Confused

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 21:40

That pattern uses very little yarn, but definitely needs two colours to work. I have a load of Mouse colour left over, so am using that for the hulls and bright colours for sails and pennants iyswim

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/06/2012 21:50

Pidj I'll haves crack at the pieces for a boat but maybe won't join them up iyswim and then they could be mixed with other boat bits from other crafters? Green would make nice hulls and pennants. :)

trumpton · 16/06/2012 21:52

My wool arrived today will start knitting tomorrow . Lovely cream Debbie Bliss. Last posting date noted in my diary but will try to post earlier .

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/06/2012 21:54

PurplePidjin · 16/06/2012 22:01
