Knitters and Crocheters needed for MN Blanket

I've been asked to help make a blanket for Magic8ballhastheanswers family, as she has passed on.

We need knitters and crocheters to make 6" squares in any design you fancy, send them to me and I'll crochet them together.

Co-ordination thread here with wool details. If you can knit/crochet but the wool is outside your price range, please donate your skills - going on previous form, there are many people who want to donate wool but can't do anything with it!

Thank you

No don't worry, I didn;t take it as Pissing on my Chips - lol

I've put a post up & see if anyone wants to take it on - if not maybe breaking it down into smaller Kiddie sized Mummy memory blankets might be the next plan - I could possibly manage one of those, if others can handle 2 more

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 22:35

Ooh, I liiiiiiiiike that idea - possibly cushions? That was one idea i had for excess woolly squares

Hello, I'm happy to help again. So sorry that it is necessarybut if a blanket gives even a few moments of comfort then it is worth it. How awful for the family though. Sad

I have some yarn left over from the other blankets so I presume this will be OK for colours unless somebody screams NO at me.Smile

Do we have any deadlines as yet?

And Pidjin - as always, thanks for taking on the biggest task and actually making the blanket. Hats off to you for giving your time yet again. Smile

Niecie · 18/08/2011 23:11

And what exactly is the hold up with the gold star emoticion?

Looks like there is going to be needed again and we still don't have it.

TheRealMBJ · 18/08/2011 23:13

I'm in.

Will have a look at the other thread...

purplepidjin · 19/08/2011 09:05

Thanks, Niecie, I think MNTowers needs a reminder (feel free to be the person who does that!)

Thank you MBJ!

I'm in too, although will have to brush up on my knitting skills. Have heard of just too many bereavements lately and if this gives an ounce of comfort to Magic's loved ones then it's time well spent.

DP is on his way home with my wool, after negotiating the wool counter of John Lewis. He sounded a bit shaky - I don't think they cut him any slack for being a non-knitter Smile.

purplepidjin · 19/08/2011 16:57

Thanks, Lastyearsmodel - please could you let IvySedai know, that way you'll be included on the list of people to send my address to!

Roffle @ DP traumatised by the wooliness. My DP accompanied to the fabric shop... Once...

Hi.
Ive posted on the other thread too. I'd love to help again and can crochet as many squares as needed as I have plenty of time but sadly not money.

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 16:39

Hello, cloudie! I spotted you on the other one, this thread's really just to pick up any lovely folk who don't hang out in chat Grin

Ivy is organising you some wool - too many people can't knit or crochet

Have posted on the other thread, I'm more than happy to buy and crochet some squares. Tis very sad indeed :( but hopefully the blankie will bring some comfort to Magic's family.

purplepidjin · 23/08/2011 08:51

Welcome, Bear, and thank you Star

Littlefish · 23/08/2011 09:10

Hi purple. Just to let you know that I have pm'd Ivy to ask to be matched with a donor.

BearGryllsBra · 23/08/2011 11:03

You're very welcome purple, I'm happy to help. I've not heard back from Lydia yet (she's probably buried under emails and wool), so I'll either order some today, or try another shop nearish to me tomorrow who stock DB and Rowan. I've posted on the other thread too, but which one do you think would be best for crochet? Or are they much the same? And sorry if I've missed this, but when is the deadline for square postage?

purplepidjin · 23/08/2011 13:58

Yay, thanks Littlefish

Bear, I think Lydia's sold all 40 balls she had in stock Shock There are some recommendations from people on the other thread though (not just me hitting search on google, but real people who have actually used sites Grin)

She has purple, she pm'd me earlier. Will track some down, dinny worry. I'm practising now with some wool that I've got to make sure I can remember how to do it try it out. Grin

I'll knit again, just remind me of all the details please, pattern and address.

One of my beautiful Burmese kittens was fatally injured yesterday, mercifully instantaneous, outside my house, so we have him, and he was intact, not mangled, so I need to do something with my hands, he would normally be on my lap chewing the end of the needles.

I have DB soft pink if any good, or would welcome wool as I can't remember where I got this from, had it ages.

DutchOma · 23/08/2011 16:25

So sorry to hear about your kitten. Can completely understand you needing to do something with your hands. Is the other one very distraught?

KnottyLocks · 23/08/2011 16:30

There's some Debbie Bliss in the bargain yarn section here www.cucumberpatch.co.uk/cashmerino_dk1.htm. They are pretty prompt with posting it too.

I've messaged MN towers re our Star, so fingers crossed.

alibubbles · 23/08/2011 17:09

Embarassingly posted on the wrong thread - Sorry, I don't wish to hijack the thread, but Dutchoma it is Grandad Burmese who is distraught, kitten used to clean his eyes for him as he is old and arthritic. Ironically we bought the kittens as he missed his 2 sons who had to be put to sleep in Dec 09.

Strangely, brother, who is the wanderer, who disappears for days, has been home all day on DH lap, who on his own admission "blubbed like a baby" yesterday.

It is so sad, we miss him, but it will be lovely to knit for someone albeit with an empty lap Sad

Ali, my 18 year old Moggie was put to sleep today. A tired old lady in need of a gentle release. Missing her desperately and feeling a little lost now. I've had her half my life.

I'm also knitting squares for the blanket so I'm glad of something to keep me busy.

Sympathies :(
