I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

lydiathetattooedlady there are some lovely squares on your profile pics, could I have the patterns please? Particularly the heart one, thank you

We really should see if we could get an on-line wool-shop 'on-board' when we're doing something like this and do all matching via that shop - and see if we can negotiate a discout or a 'free ball' to be sent eg to pidj for every eg 20 that are ordered through that shop for that specific blanket.

calrabbit · 24/08/2011 11:57

hi there

thankyou skinny muffin for my wool and also thanks to all the posts on here for inspiration as there are so many talented crafters for this blanket.

purplepidjin · 24/08/2011 12:21

Spare wook can come to me, or pass it around so we can have lots of pretty patterns?

Gay - yes, we need MN mentors, particularly to get people out of abusive relationships!

When you post your squares to PurplePidj, if possible could you please include any leftover wool? This can be used to sew the squares together and make the edge. Many thanks Star

purplepidjin · 24/08/2011 12:27

Ooh! Also, please sew your own ends in - it's a PITA job, but can you imagine having to do it on every single square, all in one hit? Shock

I'm nagging Rebecca again...

nickelbabe · 24/08/2011 12:42

oops, sorry! I didn't sew my ends in because I thought you might need the extra wool for joining Blush

Knotty, perhaps a petition would be more effective? Start a thread and get people to show their support?

Quick question:

I am knitting a plain square (garter stitch I think it's called - ie no fancy stitches!).

4.5 mm needles, cast on 33 stitches which measures 6'' across.

I'm on row 45 now, and without stretching, laid flat, it is 5'' long.

From what I've read above, 45 rows is recommended, but I'm an 1'' short (story of my life...)

So, lovely expert crafters, do I keep going?? Or is stretching involved in the making-up process?

ps wool from Lydia, so I know that's right!!

purplepidjin · 24/08/2011 14:10

AFAIK, Skinny, it depends on your tension. So, if you cast on six inches then keep going till you have six inches worth of rows...

Hopefully a proper knitter will turn up shortly and correct me!
