Call for scientific studies regarding sports when men compete against women

I am in the USA. My son and the rest of his group at school have chosen transgender athletes as a topic for a presentation. They are pro the women’s side, although also respectful to those preferring to live as the opposite sex. They cannot find any stats and evidence online comparing male and female athletes. They said all they find is one (dodgy) study saying there is no difference when men living as women compete against women. They will be presenting to two classes so 60 kids, all 17. Can you please post any scientific evidence that you think is relevant to allowing men to compete in women’s sports. Thank you. I have changed my name for this thread.

They could also consider all the training the men loose out on when on their periods, during and after pregnancy, during menopause, while breastfeeding... etc.... 😒

Your son and his group of 17yo classmates can't research this by themselves so they have asked Mummy to help? Okay... 🙄

They need to improve their critical thinking and researching skills.

She literally says they tried and cannot find anything. I do medical desk research all the time for my job and it can be difficult to find information sometimes. There’s nothing wrong in asking for help.

I don’t know if this has been suggested but they could present basic stats on adult men and women, eg differences in physical size, strength, body fat etc. Then they could narrow this down to elite athletes. They could pick a few sports like athletics, running, swimming and show differences in championship times etc. This is not definitive proof of anything just showing the differences. And then go into the hormone levels required for trans athletes and if there is any proof this makes them equivocal to women. If there is none, this should be stated! I imagine the athletic bodies that approve the requirements must have looked at some data …? maybe they have a report that details how they reached that decision?

viques · 23/05/2023 12:30

If you come across a valid scientific study which shows how a trans woman’s leg and arm bone length reduces, their lungs shrink , their heart reduces in size and their pelvis re aligns do please let us know!

AlisonDonut · 23/05/2023 12:34

They could just look at male versus female differences and leave the additional word out as it is meaningless.

This book might not have the specific data they are looking for, but it has a lot of information about how women were historically barred from taking part in sport.
Might be good for a quote or two

Strange that op hasn’t been back - maybe they were secretly hoping there was nothing to support that argument!

Don't all these 'scientific' studies amount to 'Keith down the road, who goes jogging of a Saturday morning (except when there's a car boot on down in The Fox and Fiddle car park) couldn't beat Dina Asher-Smith at the Olympics, therefore males do not have any advantage over females when it comes to sport'? I bet Loughborough University come head-hunting me now.

Did anyone else see this tweet by someone called Elizabeth Spiers? Absolutely clueless about the strength differences between men and women.

Yes. And then she followed it up by saying she wasn't offering to do it because she doesn't want to be punched in the head. She wants the woke cookies to say other women should do it.

Half way down it’s got a really good graphic they could use for a series of power points.

Pictures are always good for stuff like this, and breaking it down into heart, fat, muscle, knees etc makes it very easy to understand.

Apologies for missing this earlier, but Swim England continuously updates rankings by sex/distance/stroke/age.

Not wishing to do your kids homework, but pop them onto www.swimmingresults.org

Do shout if it isn't obvious that after 12/13 years the blokes outpace the girls.
