Have one of these and am a member of the Fawcett Society but feel a little odd wearing it. Very happy to be seen as a feminist - it's no secret . But slightly worried that it looks as though I'm saying either 'look at me: I'm normal looking, I don't wear dungarees, have short hair, cliche, stereotype etc...' or 'Aren't I gorgeous. Bet you dodn't know feminists could be gorgeous?'.
Anyone else got one? What do yout think?

lol blackcurrants - get a 'millicent tendencies' one instead if it's a girl

not keen on 'this is what...' on babies, however keen i am to raise them that way

i also have an 8yo ds who told me he didn't want to get married and have kids because it was too much work and there was too much cooking. dd1 piped up 'but that's the woman's job...' she was in the dog house for a month - dh cooks in this house, and does the ironing, i had no idea that somewhere deep in her subconscious she had been got at by bleeding barbie.

Raksha, Milicent tendencies IS kind of fantastic - will make less sense over here (USA) but if that means I get to tell more people about Milicent Fawcett, that's fine by me...
As for your DC - hah! Blimey, it's amazing what gets into their brains, isn't it? Bit scary, that.

Raksha · 21/05/2010 17:26

i was completely speechless. i haven't let her forget it though, poor child. fruit of my loins yapping about 'wimmin's work' indeed. gah.

we're in canada btw

I've got 'Mommy's little feminist' for my baby, and I don't care who knows it

I very much doubt he is actually a feminist, though I'm sure he will be one day.

Raksha · 21/05/2010 17:55

that one's better though - it suggests it's what you want for him, rather than something he's supposed to have worked out himself . i'd buy that one.

blackcurrants · 21/05/2010 18:14

I'm about to buy it, just as soon as I get find it! That's fab!

PS Dear East coast of America: I AM TOO HOT. please turn off this stupid summer or repatriate me to Yorkshire. Thanks.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 21/05/2010 23:21

blackcurrents - its actually warm here too!

Raksha · 22/05/2010 04:04

oooooooooooo. i've just found somewhere i might pick up a few bits from for the dds, including some books - and some rather fetching notecards that say stuff like 'tell me 'you throw like a girl' is a compliment', and 'please tell me 'the glass ceiling' is a fairy tale'...

www.girlsinc.org

i can't wait to see if their books deliver waht it says on the tin.

Come back to Yorkshire Blackcurrants - it's heavenly here today. Have spent the day discovering new swimming holes on the Moors!

PosyPetrovaPauline · 22/05/2010 21:13

ooh seth what moors are they?

blackcurrants · 23/05/2010 02:06

Raksha: Love that site! bookmarked in case the wriggling thing turns out to be a girl. Mmn. Kind of want to order the onesie for a girl OR a boy, to be honest. SO fabulous!

Seth: now stoppit, you'll just make me pine.
The hot weather made me want fish and chips and a nice swim in the tees... oh well! Am eating lots of ice lollies and lounging around, that's helping.

Blackduck · 23/05/2010 09:19

Why don't they do the Millicent one for adults??

I have a very old t-shirt from the 80's or may be 90's which says
'The future is female, and she's pissed off'. not sure about the former, but the latter is still true....

YunoYurbubson · 23/05/2010 10:30

On the Fawcettsoc site it says click on the slebs to see why they are a feminist. Under Bill Bailey's pic he has put

"Three women walk into a pub and say, `Hooray, we've colonised a male-dominated joke format'"
