This piece about the cost of training women doctors caught my eye today. How long before people seriously start to say that it isn't worth training women in certain professions because it's expensive and doesn't represent value for money?

Bloody hell! Every week I'm glad I didn't buy The Times this Sunday...

Many of the issues mentioned have been known about for decades now, none of them are insurmountable, just needs good planning and creative thinking as the article suggests. Surely it's worthwhile to strive for a society that accomodates family life rather than simply calculates the financial costs of motherhood and then shakes it's head?

that article made me mad - it goes on about a woman surgeon who is currently working 1 day a week while her children are small. But they are presumably going to grow up some time!
I wondered if they factored in the fact that lots of men die from heart attacks etc in their 50s.

At least she is doing one day a week. That's one more day than Harry Hill, Graham Garden, Graham Chapman or Johnathan Miller (that I can think of, off the top of my head. I'm sure that there are more). When was the last time you heard anyone moan about those non-practicing medicos?
