that women wouldnt use words such as cunt and twat as insults.

it makes me crazy!

OP posts:
HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 19:38

Why? People use cock, dick and bell-end.

Is arsehole ok? We've all got one of those.

phokoje · 08/05/2010 19:39

um yes, but those words arent directed at women.

areshole i am totally ok with.

OP posts:
phokoje · 08/05/2010 19:40

lol sorry! arsehole.

cant type.........

comixminx · 08/05/2010 19:46

But if 'cunt' is allowed to stay as the strongest most powerful swearword that doesn't sound like a good idea either. Using it more often can rob it of its power as the sine qua non of swearwords. Well maybe.

And anyway, why do you wish women specifically shouldn't use it? I assume it's because you think it's self-hatred or similar, but you don't say that you wish no-one would use it.

Portofino · 08/05/2010 19:46

I like Twunt myself. I thought though that these insults were primarily aimed at men! I am off to dwell on the feminist impact of this.....

scottishmummy · 08/05/2010 19:51

i think things like bitchfest/bitch are worse.and t usually applied pretty loosely to mean people disagree on a thread

cunt is vile

but if you mean to say cunt say it.hate cutsey swearing like twunt

a good ole profanity can lift a thread

HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 19:51

I don't see how calling someone a cunt is any different from calling them a cock. Why is it acceptable for you to use a man's genitals as a swear word but not a woman's?

If you were against the use of all swear words I could perhaps understand where you are coming from.

phokoje · 08/05/2010 19:57

well, an expression of self hate? no not really, nore like what you said that using normalises it. except i dont think that this then robs it of its power. at all.

i think that women using words like cunt and twat as insults is basically colluding with the idea that anything female is the worst insult you can dish out.

and i specifically said i wish women woldnt use it because i thnk it is a feminist issue and thats the topic. i do of course wish men wouldnt too.

i could have been more precise in my op though

OP posts:
phokoje · 08/05/2010 20:04

and portofino, yes thats my point, twat is aimed at men and women as an insult. bell end or cock or dick is not. no man would use those to insult a woman.

helenrosie, would you call a woman a dick? would that be something you would consider a good insult?

am not against swearing per se (am actually a bit of a potty mouth and am trying to reign it in for serial repeater DD)

OP posts:
HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 20:08

Yes I would call a woman a dick. I call people cock/cunt/dick. I happen to really like swearing and personally I think cunt is a strong, powerful word and I like it. Pussy annoys me more as it implies weakness.

pointydog · 08/05/2010 20:12

me and dh sometimes use cock for men and women.

I find all these words funny when used in the right context

scottishmummy · 08/05/2010 20:13

think you are overthinking this.point of any insult is to offend.profanities fulfil that criteria because they have that the taboo of dont say that.so no i dont think cunt is specifically the worst thing to call someone

if we are getting down to it

i think the sahm Vs working mum debate is really divisive and horrid.the inference is is that if you were proper mum you'd be at home with them.the oft cited put down is why having children if you dont bother seeing them

so frankly someone squawking cunt doesn't cut it for me

phokoje · 08/05/2010 20:16

thats interesting helenrosie, i guess when someone calls me a cunt i dont think, lovely! what a strong powerful word, and hhhmm actually i quite like it.

but, maybe i should?

or do you maybe mean that USING the word cunt as an insult makes you feel strong and powerful?

OP posts:
Shaz10 · 08/05/2010 20:17

Would you prefer queynte?

pointydog · 08/05/2010 20:18

No one has ever called me a cunt as an insult, only as a joke

phokoje · 08/05/2010 20:21

well yes scottishmummy, of course the intent of any insult is to offend. my (probably badly expressed) point is that i object to parts of the female anatomy being seen as inherently insulting.

of course dick, cock, bell end are parts of the male anatomy and they are too used as insults, but not (usually - helenrosie and pointydog have educated me on this point) directed at women.

OP posts:
HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 20:26

No I didn't mean that using the word makes me feel powerful, I meant that the word itself implies power. I like women's genitals having such power, which is why I dislike the word pussy.

I'd much rather be a cunt than a pussy.

HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 20:36

I also use knobjockey, cocksucker and arselicker as insults, although these are all sexual activities that I enjoy myself. It doesn't stop me using them as insults.

scottishmummy · 08/05/2010 20:37

"I like women's genitals having such power"LOL you're kidding,right?

what socialsciencetastic psychobabble is that

genitals having power as opposed to elbows having none

the powerful labia minora?mighty vulva?

what do you mean

oh god im really laughing

HelenRosie · 08/05/2010 20:47

No I'm not, I do think cunt is a powerful word whereas pussy is a weak one. Someone is generally called a pussy when they are acting like someone with no backbone. That, to me is more of an insult than cunt. I'm not asking anyone else to agree with my opinion but that's how I feel.

scottishmummy · 08/05/2010 20:55

cunt, pussy usually derisory putdowns.i wouldn't chose to be called either

Portofino · 08/05/2010 21:01

I have never called anyone a cunt in my life. I have called plenty of people F*ing Wankers though....usually in the car.

I am amazed that dd (6) has never picked up on this! Maybe she is saving it all up for the minute she hits puberty....

pointydog · 08/05/2010 22:30

are people on here really called pussy and cunt as a genuine insult? Aren't they just comedy words between friends?

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 08/05/2010 22:38

Apologies for going slightly off your original point, but it's sort of in the same territory (to to speak). Why is the word "cunt" considered so much ruder than the word "cock"?

I often watch the Top Gear Boys using the word "cock" on BBC2, and wonder what would happen if they used the other four-letter genital word beginning with C...

So tell me. Why is a four-letter C-word for a penis considered so much more acceptable than a four-letter C-word for a vagina?

scottishmummy · 08/05/2010 22:42

of course cunt is insult.traipse over to aibu.most workplaces.in fact real life
