I'm impressed with the questions being asked by the committee, they can see the problems

Everyone seems to see the glaring fucking issues very quickly.

I cannot see how this legislation could possibly be passed.

ImNotAsCooperativeAsYouMightWantAWomanToBe · Today 13:25

It doesn't matter how high the bar is, the chilling effect will mean many parents/teachers/therapists will be absolutely terrified of being reported to the police and therefore will not dare to not affirm a child.

But then this is the goal of the TRAs all along.

I thought Kai was talking about 'stocking offences'. It was stalking offences.

Yes, but as has been pointed out by others, this will also mean that the gender mob can't promote or encourage or cajole etc.

As to how it would play out in practise, I guess it will end up depending entirely on the individual police forces/officers/social workers etc.

Distractable · Today 13:27

What proportion of time has Iias responded, would we say? The other two are barely saying anything.

ArabellaScott · Today 13:27

He keeps saying its hard to answer in the abstract. But won't offer any concrete examples. Legislation is fucking abstract, that's the nature of it.

KittyWilkinson · Today 13:27

Waiting for Dennis Kavanagh. I'm glad he's speaking.

I hope our three get their full hour as their lot are now running over.

Kai is very cross.

Already 15 minutes over.

The panel are looking rattled. They will need a lie down and some serious affirming therapy after this.

They are hugely unused to being challenged and having to answer questions, and it always really shows.

Rightsraptor · Today 13:33

A break to change panels & for me to get a drink.

I must say it was nowhere near as sycophantic as I had feared.

ArabellaScott · Today 13:33

Hooray, it's the grown ups!

BridgetYourFortyDaysAreUp · Today 13:34

Thanks to everyone posting. I'm not able to watch, so just picking up the comments when I can.

So far, I'm getting "just give us this Bill because we want it. No, don't ask us to explain why."

ArabellaScott · Today 13:38

30% of calls to LGBA helpline are concerned about being gay or T.

Now talking also about detransitioners, who are increasingly attending meetings.

Research in progress re detransitioners.

Example of young Glaswegian man, who socially transitioned and lived as a woman for a number of years. Family support. He realised that he wasn't trans, he was a gay man. Now lives as a gay man.

Two insights - one is that a gay man still paints his nails and wears heels. Second, his family and parents stood by him all along.

ArabellaScott · Today 13:38

Not a criminal law issue. Complex and sensitive. Need a bit more support, care, and space.

I've wondered about this. I listened to the recent Sex Matters podcast, which an interview with a parent of a detransitioner. She said her daughter was under pressure from peers to adopt a trans identity, and she saw a message from one of her daughter's friends encouraging her to start saying she was non-binary. So under this bill, would that be considered a conversion practice? Presumably they would say not because it didn't cause her daughter "alarm and distress" (at the time).

KittyWilkinson · Today 13:41

Actual FACTS at last.

I'm working and listening when I can. I would say they brought a lot of fairly convincing sounding arguments based on other legislation - coercive control, forced marriage, FGM were repeatedly referenced - but failed to convince. And the references to religious conversion therapy for a lesbian but nothing to describe 'trans' conversion therapy.

The trouble is that there are legislators/politicians who will wave through anything that the genderists posit because of tribalism.

Rightsraptor · Today 13:41

Dennis K is very nattily dressed. I like it.

So much better than the scruffy look of the previous panel.

ItsCoolForCats · Today 13:42

And how many times did Greek panel member say it's difficult to answer "in the abstract"?

ArabellaScott · Today 13:42

Dennis has brought a lot of statistics and is also angry. I can see why. He's talking about peer pressure, homophobia, and genderism.

ArabellaScott · Today 13:43

Autism raised, Baroness is chair of an autistic organisation.

What would panel suggest for autistic teens with questions etc
