The Bluestocking Pub wakes up to lighter mornings and darker evenings, but we don't care as long as we have gerbils

Welcome to The Bluestocking, the online pub just for women. And we have a legal definition, thanks to the Supreme Court, whatever anyone else says.

Gosie's latest adventures are finally drawing to a close, so expect a terrific denoument in about a week. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by the lovely gerbil crew, who enjoy supporting us and the other female animals in our menagerie (with a respectful nod to Colin, the dachshund.

If you've heard of us and have spent a long time peering through the windows, wondering if we're an actual cult or just a bunch of very busy women with a ridiculous sense of humour, do come in. Everyone is welcome, though curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road, where they are invited to support us from a respectful distance.

One of my favourite films.

So is the window sitting out in a field in the wind and the rain?

Um, isn’t the whole point of windows to withstand the elements?

well, maybe not the whole point in the case of stained glass but it’s a basic requirement.

NotAtMyAge · Yesterday 18:22

Happy dogs, job well done. It was getting hard to see them in the shadows: the sun had gone, and the moon had turned a pale and beautiful yellow.

Such evocative writing @EdithStourton You take us with you every step of the way.

I only worked it out when Pasta mentioned the Feckless ones.

It's just the idea of something relatively fragile like leaded stained glass lying around waiting to be trodden on.

Graphic’s guarding it though.

It is laid out on the wool and straw packaging…

And you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what happens next…

Isn’t it wonderful? The friend who taught me to crochet gave it to me as a starter kit.

I’m pretty sure that if it rained the gerbils would protect it somehow. Or someone bigger would put their coat over it.

I saw a Facebook reel of a woman storing all her hooks and stitch markers u der the sofa cushion, on the basis that she’d know where they were, and that’s where they end up anyway!

I saw one of 'what happens when a crocheter stands up', i.e. hooks & stitch markers came tumbling off her.

Yeah, those sunnies are perfect. Especially for driving in the dark in a wrong-hand drive car while going just fast enough to keep the stoat interested. Glad to see that the estate car is actually a Merc E-Class.

Oh, and another thing. Stoaty's Daimler looks suspiciously like a DB18. Definitely built for comfort rather than speed. 70bhp, 0 to 50 in 16.9 seconds and all the handling characteristics of a three-legged pig. My real challenge will be not doing an Antonelli (sp) and disappearing in a cloud of dust.

And another, other thing. @Magpiecomplex, I have driven with 6 small children in the back of the car. Gantry really isn't a distraction.

Bore da, good morning, maidin maith everybody.
I've caught up now - two wonderful Gosie episodes, and Edith excelling - it was all a wonderful read thank you.

Like Damson, I was delighted to see Gantry having her moment - every gerbil has something to contribute, haven't they? Yes even Gubbins who is working on a Symphonic Poem for Percussion Idiophone and Orchestra based on the adventures of Gosie. It has stalled a bit on the 'and Orchestra' bit, but she is undaunted...

I wonder will Chic encounter our own dear Bluestocking Pirate, Swashbuckled, in her galleon? It used to be parked up regularly outside the Bluey (yes there is a place to moor a galleon just outside, haven't you noticed it?😄)
But time and tides have carried Swash away. I think she knows our thoughts go with her wherever she sails, which might very well be the Wild Atlantic.

edited cos I misspelt 'idiophone' 'ideophone'. What an ideot!🙄

Thank you for the idiophone wormhole! Got me thinking about instruments which have the word "phone" in them but which aren't idiophones. So far I've got sousaphone, which then prompted a desire for the gerbils to start a marching band.
Brb, I'm just off to talk to Gemini about this.

Chersfrozenface · Today 12:21

It seems marching bands also sometimes use brass instruments called mellophones.

Magpiecomplex · Today 12:23

Took slightly longer than expected, the name badges proved difficult.
