The Bluestocking Pub wakes up to lighter mornings and darker evenings, but we don't care as long as we have gerbils

Welcome to The Bluestocking, the online pub just for women. And we have a legal definition, thanks to the Supreme Court, whatever anyone else says.

Gosie's latest adventures are finally drawing to a close, so expect a terrific denoument in about a week. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by the lovely gerbil crew, who enjoy supporting us and the other female animals in our menagerie (with a respectful nod to Colin, the dachshund.

If you've heard of us and have spent a long time peering through the windows, wondering if we're an actual cult or just a bunch of very busy women with a ridiculous sense of humour, do come in. Everyone is welcome, though curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road, where they are invited to support us from a respectful distance.

Morning all, and thanks to @MyrtleLion for bringing us to the new place.
I seem to have missed an entire thread - life had a bit too much life in it. But it's half term now and I'm slowing down, so it's good to be here.

Popped in to baggsy a seat.

Still wandering around. Look what they had in the cafe at lunchtime.

I so much NEED some of these. So far I've only seen them online (probably here?) but have kept my eyes open in any posh food shops I've found myself in, to no avail.

I’m going to need a crochet corner, but I’m a dab hand at jam and pickles should anyone want snackage.

Thank you for the advice @Thehorticulturalhussie . I will absolutely give it a try. No problems with no visitors, just a little alarmed at the prospect of no walks. We won’t be able to ball throw in the garden, so I don’t know how he’ll burn off the energy. We’ll see. Might take him for a walk to somewhere really quiet in the car, if we get desperate.

No problem there, we have a crochet corner in the crafting nook with all the yarn and hooks you could ever need. Plus an endless supply of stitch markers.

ChristmasStars · Yesterday 06:42

I'm so glad about the endless supply of stitch markers @EmpressaurusKitty as I have lost my entire tin of favourite ones (the ones that look like little plastic nappy pins) and only have one random orange one left.

Those are my favourites too but I’m always losing them.

Wonderful large chest of stichmarkers there! I think it's no surprise that cats particularly like to be where the yarn is.

DeanElderberry · Yesterday 07:57

Good morning all.

My wing of this Bluestocking is on dry land that stays nice and solid. If we have non-damaging alcohol and wheat etc I see no reason why we can't have some wings of the inn on land and some afloat.

I'm continuing to pretend I believe what that clock is telling me, but I'm feeling hungry and the cats are very sceptical. Bank holiday today but the crafters are having our usual gathering - we'll have to set up and take down the tables and chairs ourselves, and feed the meter for the heating - worth it to catch up with the gang, and maybe the person who borrowed my pompom maker and then walked off with it will have brought it back, so that I can make some robin redbreasts.

I've recently had to frog a chunk of knitting where I used about 101 stitch markers and still went wrong...

But that project is finally coming to a close, so one of today's jobs might be selecting yarn for a jumper for a small boy.

AMansAManForAllThat · Yesterday 08:44

Gosh lots of lovely crafting underway! I’m dashing through the shoulder/cowl neck of a top, then sleeves, to finish before the Harry Potter Cal blanket starts.

Stitch markers are so useful. ❤️

Good morning!
I’ve got my flu jab this morning, at Boots because despite numerous messages on the NHS app inviting me to get one it didn’t seem possible to actually book one. It’s at the retail park, which nowadays has most of the shops I use (apart from Boots itself, marks, Next, Go Outdoors, Mountain Warehouse and Sports Direct) so I might have a browse while I’m there. I could do with a new pair of gloves - practical Karrimor ones, DD made off with my spare pair last winter.

The rain should let up this afternoon, I’ll probably need to deal with accumulations of leaves from wherever they’ve ended up- the lawns have far fewer on them now than before the storm. When we went out yesterday there was a large drift on the front side bed trying to overwhelm my brave red bedding dahlias, plus a very neat circle on the drive where we must have an eddy. And a lot in the porch.

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 09:00

Spiral blankets are really easy once the first few rows are in place, but a nightmare to start, so I always have them covered in stitch markers at that point.

One of my fosters a few years ago swallowed a random piece of yarn, kept throwing up & had to be rushed to the vet. He’s perfectly OK now but it’s made me paranoid ever since about not letting cut bits anywhere near Kitty.

Oh, I love the new version of Crafting Corner! A corner of my lounge looks quite similar, down to the quilted blanket for the cat to sleep on, which was going to be his Christmas present last year but somehow missed the deadline. I'm determined to finish it this year.

I don't have the sea views, though I do have (sorry to rub it in, Stars) a neat little plastic box with compartments, where my stitch markers reside organised by colour. The rest of the house is a tip, but at least my stitch markers are just as they should be. 😂

I can't work out if that board on the right says 'moored', 'mocked' or 'mooned'. What was on the AI's mind, I wonder?

Have you asked the rescue for advice?

It was originally Hooked but seems to have been messed with in the editing.

Good luck with the jab, Errol. What's everyone's experience with flu jabs? I get an invitation now, but I don't go because friends who had them (about 30 years ago, when I was studying with some older ladies in the class - i.e. as old as I am now) always seemed to get the flu straight away afterwards. I thought I might as well take my chances.

No problem with flu jabs. Got covid a week later but that was unrelated. I don't know anyone who has actually had flu after the jab.

DauntlessDamson · Yesterday 11:30

I had mine last week and no problems, in fact I've never had any side effects from a flu jab. I do know a couple of people who had side effects from having the Covid and flu jabs at the same time, though.

I get my flu jabs because I had a particularly nasty bout when I was younger, which took me weeks to get over.

We usually get our flu and Covid jabs at the same time and apart from the time I had them in different arms (a mistake that meant I had to sleep on my back) have had no ill effects.

Anyway Morning All
Weekend weather was very bad here, high winds and trees down though none were ours thankfully. Still the same today so a very wet dog walk first thing, today is the day that all of my waterproofs and walking boots decided to spring leaks but I don't really mind. The kitchen has a delightful hint of Eau de Damp Dog just now but I'll be making bread later and it will smell nice again.
We have a couple of hen pheasants visiting the garden at the moment, they're lovely but to Hunter they are of course a light lunch on legs and he's staring wistfully through the kitchen door.
I hope that @Chickadeeinme is surviving.

And because of the weather I took visiting son in law (D2 &SiL live in NYC) to the tank museum on Bovington camp, it’s fantastic.
If anyone else has enjoyed the film Fury, here she is.

Afternoon all. Lie in this morning, dentist check up late morning, and now I'm in work. Good news though, the dentist confirmed that I have teeth!

Did you spot Tiger 131, which was also in Fury?

ETA: DH & I disagree: I think Fury used to have a mannequin of Brad Pitt in it (in a previous location in the museum), & DH says it didn't. Does anyone remember? Don't make me go through my eleventy billion photos...

SiL spotted Tiger.
And they have a display table of artefacts from the film including a latex Brad Pitt head. So yes and no.
