A Man in a dress- how would you feel?

I'm fairly new here and have only read through a couple of posts, but I wanted to ask a question.

How would you feel if a man you knew wanted to wear "Female" (heavy on the quotation marks) clothing?

I'm specifically talking about a male whose only intention is to wear the dress because they like the dress, nothing else — no statement, no 'changing' of pronouns or wanting to be treated or referred to in any particular way, no mockery, no discussion or intention of 'becoming' a woman (again, quote unquote, not saying it's possible).

Would you genuinely be okay with this, say if your husband/friend/ colleague wearing a dress out in public? Would you have any thoughts or feelings about it, and would these affect what you say to them or how you would act?

I'm not sure how I would respond, honestly, and I know that's probably (definitely) due to my internalisation of 'gendered' norms (by that I man sex based). I think I my knee jerk reaction might be to feel inclined that its somehow not right or looks silly, before reminding myself that its just a piece of fabric and if someone likes what they like on their body, thats kindof the end of it.

On the other hand, I definitely wouldn't have the same reaction to seeing women in any clothing, and my response would always be neutral to positive.

Are we back on bimodal again? That old chestnut!

Apparently. But a binary bimodal spectrum that’s not a spectrum for reasons… 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Choppingwoodcarryingwater · 20/10/2026 07:39

StealthTroublemaker · 20/10/2026 07:37

but those things are mutually exclusive. Something cannot be binary and bimodal. Are you not understanding those words?

They really aren't if you could comprehend anything I posted.

Ohhelpwhatnow · 20/10/2026 07:39

I would think he was a cross.dresser.

🤔

I’m pondering here, what if society eliminates sex classification terms altogether?

They won't because human categorisations based on pattern recognition R us. Its how we understand the world.

You can only read appearances based on your life and your experiences. How you communicate through clothing has to understand how other people will read it. You might not have the intention of looking like a fetish dresser, but if the vast majority of the population reads you as that, you should factor that in. Communication is a two way street.
Like I said, no one stops a man wearing a dress out and about, but you can’t control what goes on in other people’s heads when they see it.

If you wore a Protect The Dolls T-shirt with the intention of keeping old children’s dolls out of the bin, you would probably understand that most other people will read it as something more else.

The connection between non conformity & sexual deviancy is as old as time that says more about the purveyor than the observed. You might want to reflect on why you personally interpret non conformity strictly as a perversion & not having other possibilities.

That many have this limited cognitive gear doesn't make them 'healthy' or accurate.

But you haven't been able to demonstrate why other than bastardised misinterpretations.

I have a really hefty female cat and a runt of the litter male cat. Which one is the female cat and which is the male? How can we tell?

No, I asked you many questions to try and determine what you were actually trying to communicate. You could not defend your theory. Sometimes that happens when you pull theories from other places without applying critical thinking. No shade, it happens.

That’s a great answer. 10/10 for effort.

But I don’t understand a world in which men can claim to be woman.
If terms such as woman/man, male/female didn’t exist, what could anyone trans to?

StealthTroublemaker · 20/10/2026 07:53

Choppingwoodcarryingwater · 20/10/2026 07:51

See, another thing we agree on. That is what I am interpreting your response as. What with the word yes signifying agreement….

That's a moot point since the human condition of categorising based on distinctions in behaviour can't change.

Maybe I do, maybe I don’t. To be an effective communicator with other people you have to understand the vast majority of what you are saying to them is not verbal, it is given in dress and body language etc. before you even open your mouth.

People judge risks quickly and accurately. It is dependent on their life experiences and it is healthy for them. You telling people to override their learned risk assessment is not going to work and is very dodgy ground to stand on.

Exactly what safety risk is a natal male in a dress?

What's really happening here isn't about risk assessment of physical danger but hyper disgust sensitivities that emanate from chronic in group bias fears.

Face facts, conservatives can't deal with non conforming behaviour ….of any kind & exploit their well worn pretend concern of 'what about the children to women's safety! ' to disguise it & keep them out to stop their 'degenerate' 'contagious' pathogens from spreading.

That’s a lot of blather to say people aren’t allowed to assess their own risks and they should ignore their own judgement.

Like I said, no one’s stopping a natal male (whatever that means) from wearing a dress, but that person can’t rule how they are perceived.

Exactly. There is no safety risk involved a man wearing a dress. As long as all males wearing dresses use male spaces when wearing them abd accept wearing a dress does not make them a woman in any way shape or form, nobody should have a problem should they?

but that person can’t rule how they are perceived.

No one is suggesting they can. The point is popular 'perception' isn't necessarily an indicator of reality.

But I thought it was. Don’t the TRA tell us that anyone who society perceives as a woman is one? So are you saying that is not true, and even if a male is perceived as a woman, he is not one? Ooohh. Another thing we agree on!

Perhaps, but experience and risk varies from person to person. What one person has lived through is different to another. How they perceive or decide their own comfort/risk in any given situation is entirely their own business.

No one is suggesting people aren't entitled to believe what they want to believe. In fact Ive said as much so throughout this thread. The point is their belief doesn't necessarily coincide with reality. Bias is a thing that has way with nullifying that.

So you’re saying thst if a man believes he’s a woman, it’s not actually real? Awesome! The meeting points of our minds are growing exponentially! Love it!

"doesn't necessarily"

Some people are just immune to information…
