Apologies if these have already been discussed I couldn't see them on any other thread.
Below are the links to the videos from Genspect discussing the history of how Transgenderism became de-pathologised but remained medicalised.
They are each between 80-90mins long but give crucial context of how we are in a situation today where someone's intense mental distortions about themselves are being classed as a "normal" way of being. First, in the medical community, and eventually in the political sphere.
They also discuss personality traits and alternative explanations for why these emotions and thoughts can be so pervasive in individuals, and compare them to similar conditions. Part of the discussion is how surgery and medicine do not sustainably address the issues a person has, and what evidence-based alternatives exist.
It is a fascinating discussion and history lesson- even if taken with the obvious bias and opinion, there are plenty of verifiable facts that have demonstrated that medicalisation of people with disturbing feelings about their body has a high risk of harm compared to low achievable results.
The recommendation is that gender incongruence is re-pathologised into the DSM and only evidence-based methods of intervention, i.e. not affirmation "therapy", are applied, especially to minors.
