Many thanks for the thread and for those doing c+p when it’s available. I was very grateful also for NW’s summary that I could read with my breakfast this morning.
Struggling now to comprehend that EBM is apparently a protected belief. I mean, it’s how medicine is done and has been for a long time. How can NHSE or an ICB argue against it? It’s taught in every medical school as current best practice.
I’m not saying that the establishment shouldn’t ever be questioned or challenged when appropriate. But really, the R’s barrister interrogating Dr Redvers as to why she raised concerns and were they related to a protected belief, when she very clearly (to those of us practising medicine) was saying “hang on, this isn’t how things should be done is it?” is just astonishing. Their argument seems to be that patients should make their own minds up and as doctors we just go along with it. It reminds me of when Michael Jackson died - there were lots of discussions then about his doctor basically just being his drug dealer, and this is essentially the same.
It remains, to me, incredible that this ideology has so captured so many people who should know better. Good for Dr Redvers for sticking up for herself and for her patients. And shame on the NHS.
