Thoughts on Dr Hannah Spiers' views on feminism and gender?

I have watched some of Dr Hannah Spiers' content, and it feels very red-pilled to me.

I agree that there is some toxic femininity and some unnecessary victimisation, but this video seemed a bit too Jordan Peterson to me.

Any thoughts?

Who is she?

Could you give a precis on the video and explain your thinking.

She has been showing up in my feed a bit. I believe she is a psychiatrist working in the States, but I haven't checked her credentials. In other videos I have seen, she talks about Lindsay Clancy and how psych speech has been used detrimentally in popular parlance.

In the video, she posits that feminism was a lie to women to make them think that men are treating them badly. She infers from this that the real victims are men who have been mischaracterised by feminism as the monsters. I could only get through half of it- and wondered if anyone else had been watching her content?

I agree with her that people do use psych speech to diagnose others (my colleague told me I had the Dark Triad the other day!), and I agree that there is a toxic level to femininity, but I think she is purposefully changing the definition of feminism from equality to "female-centric" to sell her point that feminism failed and gives permission to women to be arseholes to men.

Personally feel that once 'equality' in law has been established then the focus shifts more to being 'woman centred'. If we accept ( some don't) that there are general differences between men and women, male and female - then being a 'woman centred' feminist is to focus of the female experience and centre it in all situations.

i'm not aware of this person but i do agree that some brands of feminism blame men for everything and position men as always being the problem ( everything is down to 'the patriarchy') - and in this respect 'Feminism' is no different or better to any other form of intersectionalist style 'oppression' politics. Women also have responsibility, are not totally powerless, and they make choices.

Obviously she has a you tube career to burnish and so her positions are both inflated and polemical - with the intention to stimulate argument and debate.

I understand your point, but I disagree that what she calls feminism in the video has no feminist principles at all. And the way she is portraying "feminists" is actually being used to manipulate some men to feel justified in their hatred towards women in general.

There are always twats in any political argument, but it doesn't mean that the principle should be lost.

I wouldn't pay much mind, but there is an increasing push in the US to repeal the 19th Amendment- and it seems that well-educated, professional and articulate women like Dr Spiers are emboldening that type of argument. It is currently argued that there should only be one vote per household, and in these times that could be a possibility.

That is the problem with such polarised politics...everything is taken to extremes. Simply tilting the scales in the opposite direction is no solution to creating long term stability or general consensus.

Agreed.

That seems like a very niche point of view, as is the repeal of the 19th amendment. There are quite a few male commentators who are pushing the idea that 'feminism' has gone too far and it's to blame for everything and there are plenty of women who are agreeing with them.

Most of the attitude is coming from the fact that women are seen to be the biggest believers in the genderwang crap, people are pushing back against that and some are using it as a cover for the usual misogyny.
