Waiting for the literal genocide brigade to pitch in.

Thanks for posting this OP.

Well done Sex Matters.

Brick by brick. Good stuff SM. I am so pleased they exist.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 30/09/2026 00:54

Good. Forcing women to call their rapists women is punishing the victims in order to please the attacker.

BloodyRoses · 30/09/2026 01:14

This is good news. The UK is doing well, other countries are unfortunately still so contaminated with this crap.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/09/2026 01:16

It's a.very strange one. Even if TWWW surely forcing a woman to lie in court if she doesn't believe that is basically the court forcing perjury on the woman. It's so weird.

Thanks for posting this OP.

Well done Sex Matters.

The strange thing is I read their own report of what happened, and felt quite let down, but admired them for trying.

So must have had more of an impact than just the ruling it self.

Fantastic.

I think this is about the prosecution (I.e. barristers, CPS solicitors) using correct sex nouns and pronouns about the accused. Thankfully the madness that penalizes witnesses for using them stopped a few years ago.

It's so stupid because in the UK, last time I read up on this, it's not even legally possible for a woman to commit rape (based on the definition). So, police can only bring charges if they're charging a man ffs.

No one is ever forced to call anyone anything. As far as I'm aware, it can't be compelled. I do it when asked because I'm empathetic and not an a-hole but in a case like this, I would never call a rapist a woman, even if a judge tried to force me to.

hholiday · 30/09/2026 05:38

I wonder if organisations like the BBC will now revise their guidance on court reporting. It's been so poor and a major reason why I largely avoid their news site. If a white criminal were to insist as part of his defence he was black, that would be widely seen as massively offensive and a distortion of crime statistics. So why was this ever ok?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 30/09/2026 07:56

Great, it's an important concession given how the victim of the crime, is in fact more vulnerable that the person who committed the crime
Now all we need is the MSM to follow suit and stop calling men women.

LordEmsworthsGirlfriend · 30/09/2026 09:41

Can call, not should/must call. 😡

JellySaurus · 30/09/2026 16:39

It will be a bit of a giveaway as to any court’s misogynistic prejudice if a male defendant is referred to using feminine pronouns.

Yes. Thanks to women here.

It’s a good turnaround from the rank injustice in 2018 when Maria MacLachlan was denied compensation because she had difficulty complying with the judge’s instruction “that she should refer to her male attacker as “she”, because “(t)he defendant wished to be referred to as a woman” :
“It was notable that when I asked Ms Maclachlan to refer to Ms Wolf as ‘she’, she did so with bad grace – having asked her to do so she continued to refer to Ms Wolf as ‘he’ and ‘him'”.

The linked article gives the context of this.
