School uniforms are more important than women's rights (I'm being facetious)

I probably should have posted this in AIBU (especially since schools have just started)...but I know you will all understand!

Saw this, and I'm irritated.

This has nothing at all to do with women's rights, but says a lot about the Government's willingness to be clear, direct, concise, and to make quick, unequivocal statements, when the law is very clear about something that (I would hazard a guess) male activists couldn't care less about!

Government warns schools against exploiting loopholes in new uniform rules

The government has asked schools to abide by the spirit as well as the letter of the law - amid reports some schools have said jumpers are optional, so not included in the rules, even though a jumper isn't practically optional in the colder months.

Education Secretary Lucy Powell said: "No family should be priced out by a school's choice of uniform supplier or an insistence on branded items.

"We've been clear with schools - three items for primary, four for secondary, no exceptions and no excuses. If schools try to work around that, we will step in." [my bold]

(Is it just me who's irritated here? Or is the law about school uniforms actually more important than women and girls' safety and dignity?)

From September 2026, schools must limit the number of compulsory branded items of school uniform and PE kit they require pupils to have.
This is a legal requirement under the _Education Act 1996

No, uniforms are not as important as women's rights. I don't get the 3 items for primary and 4 for secondary. That doesn't cover enough, really. The point, for me, of uniforms is a) convenient, no arguments about what DC wore to school, b) that all DC look the same, easy to spot on school trips etc and no-one is bullied for the 'wrong' pair of trainers (cos trainers are either banned or must be black without a logo), c) cheaper since one needs 3 max of each item rather than a whole wardrobe of different clothes to wear every day to keep up with the current fashion - i.e. I am in favour of uniforms.
I am even more in favour of women and girls' sex based rights and wish the government would speak up forcefully on those items required instead of giving in to the nut jobs who 'believe' in gender ideology.
In the same vein, I hope the government is not going to give into pressure from the NEU to remove the phonics check and a knowledge rich curriculum in favour of the skills curriculum (utter rubbish and has wrecked Scottish ed) and woolly ideas about learning reading from immersion in wonderful texts (doesn't work for most DC and is particularly invidious for those from deprived backgrounds or where English is a second or subsequent language).

I'd like to see Lucy Powell say this about KCSIE 2026:

"We've been clear with schools [about KCSIE]...no exceptions and no excuses. If schools try to work around that, we will step in." [my bold]

and about single-sex spaces for women and the SC ruling/EA 2010:

"We've been clear [about single-sex spaces and the SC ruling] ...no exceptions and no excuses. If [public services] try to work around that, we will step in." [my bold]

I'm sure plenty of parents would welcome such an unequivocal statement from our Government, not least SingleSexSpacesinSchools. And women throughout Great Britain.

But it will never happen because Labour are too afraid of the male activists.

Instead, schools are twisting themselves in knots to Be Kind by telling children that the only way to be respectful to gender questioning children is to actively use their preferred pronouns. Safeguarding legislation and the spirit in which it has been written - to keep children safe from harm - should be far more important than the supposed "respect" of supporting them to choose their "gender".

Children need to know that sex and gender identity are not the same thing and that nobody can change sex. It's dangerous to teach them otherwise, or to leave them confused about what it all means.
