Anyone watched Biosphere and have thoughts on its sex and gender themes? (May contain spoilers)

Has anyone watched Biosphere on Prime video?

It’s set in an apocalyptic near future and trying not to give too much away in case anyone wants to watch it, reference is made to clownfish.

I actually really enjoyed it and would give it a 7.5 but looking at reviews online it is very divisive getting a huge range of scores pretty evenly from 1-10!

Anyone who’s seen it or wants to chance a 1/10 movie so they can discuss it?

Not heard of it, not sure anyone would be that bothered about spoilers, what is the plot? You could ask MN to put “spoilers” in the thread title, I expect they would.

Haha you already did, sorry!

Well if anyone wants to watch it don’t read any further!

if you’re not fussed:

The last two men on earth are living in a biodome, their last female fish dies so they presume they’re now without their main food source and are going to die.

Then the male fish they’ve been keeping ‘evolve’ like a clownfish so that they can continue to breed. As the final two humans on earth, one of the men also begins to exhibit some changes in that department!

It’s obviously not very science based and he does acknowledge that despite his biology changing, he still ‘feels’ like man. I’m as GC as they come but I thought it was just quite an interesting premise, and the two actors are both really good in it.

It got absolutely pasted on some reviews but I wonder if some of those were homophobes, as I found it quite an interesting take on the end of the world trope. Wondered if anyone had seen it being used as an argument for/against trans as the clownfish analogy is one we see a lot.

Sounds interesting but not really my cup of tea as a film!

Bumping past the visitor’s 2010 zombie threads…

Hmm. From your description it's giving me "Passion of New Eve" / platonic hermaphrodite theme vibes.

Might give it a watch whilst I wait for the new Reacher episodes... (gotta keep Prime's algorithm on its toes somehow).
