I have watched this woman for many months now and pity they way she has been abused by a man (Trump). A few thoughts i have had recently

i. My understanding is that she only had one month maternity leave . Is this really enough maternity leave for a civilized Western country?

ii. My understanding is that President Trump was regularly asking when she would be back from her mat leave. Is this legal in the USA ? Its not like she was having a ton of leave

iii. It appears that she is regularly forced to lie to the masses and defend the indefensible by a man . When she meets Peter At The Pearly Gates she is going to have huge difficulty in persuading him that she was a good christian

iv Im reading something about a decoy plane and that she may have been left on it whilst a younger blond "aide" was selected by Trump to travel on the non decoy plane. Imagine being a new mother and finding out that you were deliberately left on a plane which security services thought could have been shot at and that this was done just to save a man . It must be awful to think that your newborn could potentially have lost the mother life this

Just some thoughts on her, as i say i feel that she has been used in a way that should make her feel ashamed

She is a willing participant in the wholly misogynistic MAGA movement. Nothing has been done TO her, and she was in the movement before trump became president. American women get very little maternity leave; it depends on the organisation they work for but there isn’t an option for taking a year like in England and other places in Europe.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/08/2026 01:44

That's normal for the US

I'm not an expert, but I always think she seems very enthusiastic about her job. And very committed to the whole thing. I'm sure she'll do a good job on the next job.

edit - just looked up and it appears she wasn't even on the plane because she was on maternity leave!

A lot of TDS doing the rounds

EmeraldRoulette · 14/08/2026 01:49

Also, didn't she go to the White House correspondencts dinner when she was officially meant to be on maternity leave? Because she really wanted to go. I don't know if you've ever looked at her social media accounts, but that is a lot of enthusiasm. I'm not sure it can be fake.

Dumdidums · 14/08/2026 01:52

I assumed she had undergone some sort of coercion or brain washing . It didn't occur to me that she would willingly degrade herself like this . History is not going to look kindly on her role though theres obviously the potential for an even worse person to take her place

She strikes me as being like Margaret Thatcher.
Intelligent, very quick at answering questions and knows her stuff, absolutely horrible person with no obvious empathy and looks down on those she considers lesser mortals.
Imo she probably thinks Trump (and his entourage) is an idiot but for now working for him serves her purposes.

And Mrs Thatcher was quite happy to leave her twin babies with a nanny as soon as they were born.

SchnitzelAgain · 14/08/2026 02:04

I don’t understand your train of thought. There are hugely conservative women out there who wholeheartedly believe in MAGA. They are part of the movement of their own free will because they independently believe in the misogynistic, facist platform.

What's your reason for starting a thread about her in particular? Have you started threads about the men? Maybe you have of course and I just haven't seen them.

She’s married to a man 32 yrs her senior. She’s 28, he’s 60…

This!

Years ago (like c. 20plus) I read an article about Trumps ‘Margaret’ on The Apprentice & she was in hospital after giving birth & Trump was on the phone speaking to her about work - literally the same / following day! This isn’t unusual in the US!

Who happens to be a multiple millionaire.

They met while she was standing for congress as a republican.

I read somewhere that many women are happy to partake in creating a misogynistic society having not understood that they never get a seat at the table for their services. It seems to me that this is an example.

She is a Christian Nationalist. It is what she believes in. That she is to serve her husband.

Sunnydaysforevernow · 14/08/2026 06:18

Maybe. Or maybe it’s all a facade.

Do you assume the same about all the men working for and supporting Trump? About Vance? About Trump himself?

If not, why assume a woman doesn't have agency?

As for maternity leave, the US has no statutory right to it. It's at the whim of employers, and if they do give it 4 to 6 weeks is very common.

I’m sorry, but on a feminism board I find the comment about Thatcher being “quite happy to leave her twin babies with a nanny” rather extraordinary. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms to make of Margaret Thatcher, but employing childcare so that she could continue her career isn’t one of them.

Would you make the same observation about a man who returned to work shortly after the birth of his children and left them in the care of their mother or a nanny? I suspect not. Historically, men have routinely done exactly that without it being presented as evidence that they lack empathy or are somehow deficient parents.

Criticise Thatcher’s politics and character by all means, but judging a woman for using childcare while pursuing her career seems a remarkably unfeminist standard to apply.

I’m neither Thatcher’s biggest fan nor her biggest critic. I’ll criticise her politics where I disagree with them. I will not criticise her for deciding that becoming a mother did not require her to abandon her career and become a stay at home parent.

There is no evidence that Mrs T looked down on "lesser" mortals, in fact there are many staff who said she was very kind to them (unlike many "top" politicians who do look down on us plebs and treat their staff badly despite talking all the "right" words about being kind). And a shocking comment about leaving her children, a slur on all working women. We could do with more leaders with gravitas like her now instead of ones like Andy "mines a Greggs beans and cheese pasty" Burnham (sorry for derail).

LizzieSiddal · 14/08/2026 09:13

Re maternity leave my dh deals with people in USA frequently. He’s had women on Zooms (with camera switched off) from their bed in maternity hospitals. This is women who are working in massive corporations.

USA is a barbaric country imo.

Igmum · 14/08/2026 09:13

There’s no statutory paid maternity leave in the US. Firms are obliged to give 12 weeks unpaid leave during which the mother’s job is protected but any payments are at the discretion of each individual employer.

And yes it is an absolute disgrace in a wealthy, civilised country.

Somersetbaker · 14/08/2026 09:14

I wonder what first attracted her to her multi-millionaire, much older husband and to the (allegedly) billionaire Donald Trump.

Yet Leavitt has happily spent years fully supporting a president who has done nothing to improve maternity leave.

You know, the difference in interpretation of the same material is absolutely fascinating.

I have also been watching Ms Leavitt for months and don't get the impression of somebody who is abused or controlled in any way (at least, not by Trump or the men around her; by the warped MAGA ideology is another matter).

Frankly, I think she is a fully paid-up member of the MAGA delusion, believes her own bullshit, and appears dedicated to cosplaying Joseph Goebbels.

"My understanding is that she only had one month maternity leave . Is this really enough maternity leave for a civilized Western country?"

No. No, it is not nearly enough. But you are mistaking the USA for a civilised country.

77 million people voted for Trump in the 2024 election. Please don't put that down to brainwashing, it is down to them being a certain type of person.

CitizenZ · 14/08/2026 10:53

I saw this on X today. In case the image takes a while to upload it reads "If you fear MAGA will take away women's rights, then you should learn about Sharia Law"

Not really the flex they think it is. Withholding and eroding women's rights in a first world country is fine, because it's not as bad as other places in the world.

Hardly an achievement!!
