Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, and any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Is there a pattern for a gerbil that looks more like Maud? Perhaps with a whole wardrobe of patterns to go with it.

By coincidence, ‘MAuD’ is my made up equivalent of MN in my novel (Mothers of Autistic Daughters…)

It's also in keeping with the original Maud of the Blue Stocking who we know and love!

Except they're 750ml... but fun fact, before Austria joined the EU, they made wine in 70cl bottles and shifted to 750ml when they realised their target market wouldn't accept them.

That’s beautiful, @AnonyMumAuDHD . I do think they could make it clearer that it’s just the pattern and not the finished product, though.

Are there any crochet experts on the thread who can comment on the design?

ETA: the reviews (for the seller’s other designs) aren’t very good. I don’t recognise the stitch used, which is why I asked for experts’ comments.

Ah I was changing tack - my post just before my pic of a crochet Maud said I wondered if there was a pattern for a gerbil who looks more like Maud.

It would be fun to find patterns of all her outfits!

It looks as if the Etsy one Anony posted might be best avoided.

Should have taken a moment to read the customer reviews - apparently it looks nothing like the picture when complete. So annoying - I’ve downloaded knitting patterns from Etsy loads of times and everything has been fine before. Will make me think twice going forward!

I’ve never tried amigurumi, although I’ve got a kit somewhere that someone gave me for my birthday years ago.

We've had a little bit of rain overnight. Not enough to wet a cat, but definitely rain.

We had a bit of rain yesterday and then I think quite a bit overnight. Forecast is that we may have a bit more this morning but mostly just heavy cloud. Proper August weather.

There's a puddle at the top of my street!

I slept abysmally last night. The plus side was being awake when the rain started. I went to the loo and stuck my hand out of the window to feel the raindrops landing on it. It stopped and started a few times but when I went to sleep it was soaking down.

I don't think it lasted long, though, because only the top half inch, at most, of the soil was damp this morning. We are forecast more over the next few days.

I'm just emailing a worried rellie in Oz who used to live in proper wildfire country and has been worrying about us. She used to get evacuation orders, had to keep the trees around her house cut well back etc, so I'm now able to reassure her that we've had rain so hopefully fire season is over.

Is that a pothole?

Now that the heatwave is perhaps over and we've had rain, the nation can go back to moaning about the roads and sharing memes about gnome paddling pools, Lego people scuba diving, losing an entire labrador down a pothole etc.

Not sure it counts as a pothole. They repaired the road badly and it dips so water always collects there.

Morning all. Forecast says 26 and cloudy here, no rain. We had a tiny bit of rain overnight Sunday into Monday. Back to work tomorrow, which I'm quite looking forward to because I'm getting bored 😆

Nah, Christmas, that doesn't count as a pothole.

We had one on the way back from town that could consume a small car.
Everyone local knew it was there and would veer out into the road as they approached in an effort to avoid it (while not being swiped by an oncoming lorry). It was repaired a few months ago but some people were clearly pothole-dodging on auto and took weeks to stop.

Mind you, the repair was terrible so it will probably reappear over the winter.

I've done seven or eight when the kids were younger and wanted them. They are pretty easy as long as your crochet tension isn't too loose.

I've also done a couple of the TOFT kits linked to above - bigger than amigurumi but the same principle.
