“any individual is capable of rape”.

Not according to UK law

The legal definition is preferable to his bullshit

Manivannan has been catapulted from no where because he fits the Scottish Greens commitment to trans and non binary politics.

He isn’t a British citizen and didn’t have permanent residence when he was elected -
there is no question of illegality here according to the Greens. I do not say this to fuel the immigration debate I say this because he has moved so quickly through the Scottish Greens election process because he ideologically fits their narrative.

A bit like Jason Arday's rise to fame.

The selection of Manivannan by the Greens meets the exact same criterion.

How does this keep happening?

Because they're enabled by people who are so open minded that their brains fell out.

"Yeah, it's a spectrum. None of which is any worse or less but it is a spectrum of things that constitute that one homogenised word, rape."

I think this was badly phrased, in fact some of it doesn't make sense, but in fairness he does not say it is a spectrum of seriousness, he says that rape can take many forms.

His statement that ends '“Any suggestion that my statements minimise or excuse rape or sexual assault are deeply false and misleading.”
seems OK.

I'm not sure that this is the worst thing a Green has ever said in this context..

I don’t think it is, by a distance. Probably not the worst thing he's said, even. But I don't think it's time to get the pitchforks out. He still seems an unpleasant individual who should not be occupying the post he does, especially as apparently he does not even have the right of abode for the length of the parliament. When people praise the benefits of PR, I often think, look at Scotland!

He always has an excuse. Horrible, racist, nasty man. Should never have been anywhere near Holyrood.

He should fit right in.

Pingponghavoc · 08/08/2026 21:47

There is a lot of discussion about the definition of rape within the trans community. But little from the perceptive of victims.

I think these men start the conversation to see how far they can push it, and backtrack if they get negative reactions.

There is something deeply troubling about a male non-binary talking about the flaws of men.

It feels like he is talking about men but the same time trying to opt out of that category

Edited

That's precisely what it's about.

'Nooo the other men, not me I'm special, pure and above reproach.'

For what it is worth, this is his response

https://archive.ph/C30Rs

"The point I made about demonisation was that not all rapists fit a stereotype, and that all kinds of men can and do commit it."

So which rapist's does he think don't deserve to be ' demonised'?

moto748e · 08/08/2026 21:59

Yesterday an old-fashioned phrase came into my head: speaking with forked tongues. Seems to me today it's ubiquitous. You hear it everywhere, and so often, it gets hard to keep hold of the truth. The Greens are one example amongst many.

In Scots law, a woman who calls herself a transman and has a fake penis constructed from skin is theoretically capable of rape.

non-consensual penetration of a vagina or anus with an object is legally defined as assault by penetration, not rape

Wonder if any TRAs would take up a court case to have a fake penis recognised as an actual one.

In such a warped world wouldn't be surprised.

Edited to add this is the same in both the law in England and in Scotland

In Scottish law the definition of a penis in respect of rape includes a surgically created penis

Well so much for internet search engines. None of them came back with that info.

Do you have the source?

OtterlyAstounding · Yesterday 01:26

It's interesting, having watched the clip from the podcast, how he centres the rapist rather than their victim, and seeks to make the rapist relatable and sympathetic, while the victim is practically erased.

People, like him, talk about trying to get rid of the 'myth of the monster rapist', but what they don't seem to understand what the issue with that myth actually is. It's not that genuinely nice, decent men can – whoops! – accidentally engage in a little light rape, it's that rapists are very good at appearing nice, charming, and normal to others, so they don't appear to be monsters.

moto748e · Yesterday 01:30

But he doesn't care about that. Or anything, except self-publicity, it seems.

Yes, quite.
Only people with a penis can commit rape, although the penis may be surgically constructed.
I’m quoting the law in Scotland because he’s a member of the Scottish Green Party. (It’s similar in England and Wales although the legislation.gov.uk link I found didn’t mention the surgical construction part)

Does he think that people without a penis are non-persons, or aren’t worthy of consideration?

The section about him claiming a lower-caste background reminds me in a very small way of someone else claiming things about his childhood where the evidence doesn’t seem to support it.

Here's the relevant section from the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009:

(4) In this Act—

  • “penis” includes a surgically constructed penis if it forms part of A, having been created in the course of surgical treatment, and
  • “vagina” includes—

(a) the vulva, and

(b) a surgically constructed vagina (together with any surgically constructed vulva), if it forms part of B, having been created in the course of such treatment.

There's a transcript here.

I'm struggling to understand why he even raised the subject of rape and rapists in this context.

The interviewer sounds as bonkers. She says rape isn't always "scary" and he just agrees and runs with it.

I miss the good old days when only established media sources had a mouthpiece... what even is "The SubjectiveSpace Podcast"?! Who are these people!

Well the Greens let transwoman Aimee Challenor employ his child-rapist father as election agent, after he was charged with rape. They were considering making Aimee Deputy Leader, despite the fact he was engaged to a man who openly published fiction online about his desire to have sex with children.

The Greens don't seem to do any due diligence at all.

It's not that they don't do any due diligence. It's that they specifically choose these people. Creeps flock together for safety in numbers
