I know this doesn't belong here but given the bollocks from the GLP about issues that do I thought people might be interested.

It's about Professor Jason Arday, a Cambridge academic. The story started when there was a claim that large chunks of his PhD thesis had been taken from another (sometimes not even changing typo errors) published a few years earlier. His justification is that he's autistic and his way of coping is 'mimicry'.

Sine then his many claims about his charity work, fundraising and physical exploits have come under increasing scrutiny - much from the Guardian - and are unravelling fast. He's having to backtrack and 'explain' a lot. He's claimed to have been on a TV programme that he never was and it was chronologically impossible for him to be on it. He has claimed a lot of nasty harassment but has no evidence of it, no photos, no messages, and didn't report any of it to the police. (Well he claims he did once, but the police have no record of it and the story doesn't stack up.)

What does the GLP have to do with it? They're organising an open letter in his support, claiming that there is nothing to see here except that he's a victim of vile racism.

Support for a left wing cause that bears no relationship to the facts? Where have I heard that before?

It's not a charity. It's a not for profit company, or it was till it moved to Jersey - I don't know if that changes its status.

It's now a Purpose Trust, a peculiarly Jersey entity, I gather. Such trusts which are neither charitable nor for named/ascertainable beneficiaries, but for a purpose.

SqueakyDinosaur · 23/08/2026 13:02

Definitely Not Dodgy, oh no sirree. Nothing to see here, move along please....

nauticant · 23/08/2026 13:28

During the South Sea Bubble companies were set up at a great rate to jump on the bandwagon, including: A company for carrying on an undertaking of great advantage, but nobody to know what it is.

(Although this could well be a myth, I do like it.)

I've been trying to find more details of that event he was supposed to be at. Wtf is a healing circle

Wtf is a healing circle

Not just a healing circle but "A space for all those affected" & "Urgent community conversations, grief and healing circle"

Whatever it is, you can guarantee that JM will put himself at the centre of it. He really is such a twat.

He can't resist, can he? Always good for a laugh.

MyAmpleSheep · 23/08/2026 14:06

He leaves unsaid the reasons why a Jersey trust is beneficial.

It was a silly move by JM. It opened him up precisely to the points being made against him. But perhaps that was the purpose.

This 100%. To me as a lay person it looks dodgy as fuck to set up an anonymous Trust in a tax haven as the beneficial owner of GLP but Jolyon is the tax expert so needs to explain why it's necessary & why it's not dodgy as fuck.

Im not sure if his beef with Barbara Rich but she's recently retired, so there's no risk of offending "professional courtesy" given he's branded her a troll

The sycophantic responses under this are really something. No wonder he continues grifting wherever and whenever he can. So many gullibles.

Yup, just like the badly written Nigerian prince emails of the past, it's an easy way to hone in on the most gullible.
People who think if it's in the DM then it must be untrue, without even taking 90 seconds to Google 'companies house : Good Law Project' are idiots

"Rachael Swindon" on twitter had this down to a fine art and put up a nightly begging post for vets bills, grandmothers funerals etc. it's showing you care you HEARTLESS MONSTERS

'But we are not becoming a trust'...'a Jersey Trust'...

Isn't a Jersey Trust a...trust?

A Jersey trust is a sophisticated legal and fiduciary arrangement created when a settlor transfers assets to a trustee, who then manages and safeguards those assets for the benefit of beneficiaries (or for a specific purpose) under the world‑renowned Trusts (Jersey) Law 1984.
Unlike a company, a trust has no separate legal personality meaning the trustee legally holds the assets, but never for their own benefit. Instead, they hold them strictly for the beneficiaries, under strict fiduciary duties and the detailed governance rules laid out in the trust deed.
In practical terms, a Jersey trust acts as a long‑term protective container for wealth: the settlor contributes assets, the trustee oversees and administers them with professional care and the beneficiaries ultimately benefit according to the structure’s rules. This legal separation between ownership, control and benefit, is what makes trusts powerful for asset protection, succession planning, tax structuring and multi‑generational wealth management.

So looks like some digging about who the beneficiaries of their Jersey Trust are needs to be done.

Since Jolyon nuked his X & Bluesky accounts he's mostly using insta & I think all of the ❤️ have gone to his head a bit. He's turned into some sort of guru...

Fgs. This has now reached a grotesque level. I saw some of the ‘thank god for you’ in the x posts and wondered if his head might explode from swelling up. He’s like a Trump IMO. Anything to continue the attention and adulation.

SqueakyDinosaur · 23/08/2026 19:49

Luckily for me I don't understand how Instagram works and so I can't see all the fawning comments!

DrudgeJedd · 23/08/2026 23:50

Here he is describing the respected barrister who has drawn attention to his Jersey trust shenanigans as an "internet troll" and someone who wears "polite white grandmother clothes".
His misogyny is revolting and he's abandoned all pretence at professionalism. I hope members of the GLP board are examining their own role in supporting his mental unwinding

As for the white bit...has he looked in the mirror?

moto748e · 24/08/2026 00:42

Who knows what he sees when he looks in the mirror?

Lalgarh · 24/08/2026 00:53

Would he ever face a backlash from his admirers? What do you think it'd be that'd trigger it?

Trans Reddit seem to have got fed up with him a while back as they feel they're being used as a totemic group to push his personal crusades from the posts seen elsewhere on MN

Maybe mirrors don't show his reflection? Or is that only true for vampires?

Up until now, this Arday fallout has been free of political opinions, Diane Abbott, greens and signatures to the letter excepted.

Deeply upsetting my junior colleagues my foot. Deeply upsetting him more like it.

SqueakyDinosaur · 24/08/2026 08:36

Is Polanski genuinely thick or just disingenuous? In that Telegraph KB article he is quoted as referring to "the press and their donors". Here's the thing, Mr Hypnotits: the MSM is a commercial venture. It has customers, not donors. And if you're taking about subscription models like Substack, the same applies. So WTF are you on about?
