I know this doesn't belong here but given the bollocks from the GLP about issues that do I thought people might be interested.

It's about Professor Jason Arday, a Cambridge academic. The story started when there was a claim that large chunks of his PhD thesis had been taken from another (sometimes not even changing typo errors) published a few years earlier. His justification is that he's autistic and his way of coping is 'mimicry'.

Sine then his many claims about his charity work, fundraising and physical exploits have come under increasing scrutiny - much from the Guardian - and are unravelling fast. He's having to backtrack and 'explain' a lot. He's claimed to have been on a TV programme that he never was and it was chronologically impossible for him to be on it. He has claimed a lot of nasty harassment but has no evidence of it, no photos, no messages, and didn't report any of it to the police. (Well he claims he did once, but the police have no record of it and the story doesn't stack up.)

What does the GLP have to do with it? They're organising an open letter in his support, claiming that there is nothing to see here except that he's a victim of vile racism.

Support for a left wing cause that bears no relationship to the facts? Where have I heard that before?

Up until now, this Arday fallout has been free of political opinions, Diane Abbott, greens and signatures to the letter excepted.

Kemi Badenoch has now come out to bat for the press

Is Polanski genuinely thick or just disingenuous? In that Telegraph KB article he is quoted as referring to "the press and their donors". Here's the thing, Mr Hypnotits: the MSM is a commercial venture. It has customers, not donors. And if you're taking about subscription models like Substack, the same applies. So WTF are you on about?

Also note him squeezing in a quick reference to 'fossil fuels' and 'our planet', to throw a few crumbs to the GP followers who still think that the Party is Green.

The Guardian has donors, so perhaps he was referring to them - though probably not. I think he was being disingenuous and implying that newspapers are being funded by dark forces.

nauticant · 24/08/2026 10:18

That might be because he inhabits a world where "everyone" needs to be funded to do whatever it is they do and very few people actually work in employment or commerce to earn money.

Here he is describing the respected barrister who has drawn attention to his Jersey trust shenanigans as an "internet troll" and someone who wears "polite white grandmother clothes".
His misogyny is revolting and he's abandoned all pretence at professionalism. I hope members of the GLP board are examining their own role in supporting his mental unwinding

She just comments on law and ethics, so it's rather an own goal to suggest that she is upsetting his 'junior colleagues'.

One can only image how difficult it must be to get any work done at GLP amongst the continuous wailing and rending of garments.

Barbara Rich who is Jolyon's "internet troll" has just retired as a barrister & written an interesting article about life at the bar as a woman.

I've just noticed that a journalist from the Telegraph has contacted Barbara Rich via X about a story they are working on

Overwhelming support for Barbara Rich on X. Quite right too. JM has outdone himself this time. Sexist, racist and ageist all in one go. Barbara has posted the GLP's own code of conduct.

It's all getting a bit bizarre, isn't it? You feel this is not going to end well for JM.

DrudgeJedd · 24/08/2026 21:18

"bit bizarre" indeed, he's boasting that his posts get more comments than the DM. Followed by something something "Viscount Rothermere's fading organ" something something "rip shit out of it on Instagram"
It's very entertaining, does anyone have tiktok? I imagine he's wearing North Face & doing gun fingers on there 😁

Will any of his many adulators stage an intervention to ensure he doesn't come to any harm??? Perhaps run a fund-raiser and vigil for him too while they're at it. Oh, and an open letter (only not sure who it would be addressed to).

Mmmnotsure · 24/08/2026 22:19

Enjoyed this, via the Barbara Rich fall-out thread. It's from Bluesky.

The versifiers of Mumsnet would give them a run for their money.

As for the white bit...has he looked in the mirror?

Co-opting the views of others seems to be something of a feature rather than a bug. Using “white as a slur when you’re white yourself, using the term “inshallah” when not a Muslim and so on.

Gosh Hayden has his grip on MN to this day, eh?

MarjorieWestriding · 25/08/2026 09:39

What did you say?

Shedmistress · 25/08/2026 10:20

Somellthibg along the lines of...

Never seen him and Hay.den in the same room...I mean normal room not a s3x dungeon...and why are they all so pompous, it is 'the law' that makes them that way.

That was it.

But we do know that GLP and MN share a director so maybe GLP has decided Hay.den is one too many [redacted] to be compared to. It is all fucking hilarious.

Polite white grandmother clothes? Many of my friends are pwgs. Clothes tend to be trousers (demure Bermuda shorts this summer), jersey or cotton shirts/blouses in whatever colour is being pushed this year, cardigans, fleeces or gilets with pockets, skechers, short hair, usually glasses, increasingly often hearing aids. During school holidays may be accessorised by babies or small children.

Is he saying they are bad?

I think he is saying they are insignificant.
