Diane Abbot re-admitted to Labour Party

The long-serving MP Diane Abbott has been let back into the Labour Party, following a year-long suspension.

In a statement, a Labour spokesperson said Abbott had "apologised" following an independent process and that she would be readmitted into the parliamentary party, meaning she can sit as a Labour MP once again.

She just described the war in Ukraine as a “NATO campaign against Russia”.

Diane Abbott has always been true to her beliefs and I think she has been targeted because she is a black, left wing politician. Nigel Farage shouts whatever he wants and is exonerated and Diane is forced to leave the Labour Party. It's not right.

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison Holidays. DA has certainly been on the receiving end of a load of abuse for being a black woman and that is appalling. On this occasion she said some unacceptable things herself and was quite rightly disciplined by the Labour Party. The reason Farage gets away with it is because he’s a member of Reform which is less inclined to insist on ethical behaviour from its members.

I think the point is that Diane Abbott's politics are of a branch of left wing politics that the mealy mouth centrist Labour blob are scared off because they assume it is a vote loser. The reality is of course that under Corbyn the Labour Party got more votes in a general election than Starmer did.

Nearly everything that is said about her is distorted through the lens of the Labour bros who think that ingratiating themselves with the UK's facile news media is how to run a Party.

Added which Labour has allowed her to be abused by white male reactionaries and made no effort to defend her, and she was publicly humiliated by the Speaker of the House who in one sitting ignored her indicating she wanted to speak, I think it was nearly 10 times.

Irrespective of her personal politics, what has been done to her by both the media, and her own party is an absolute disgrace and an example of how the UK, or maybe just the English try to hide their racism and sexism under spurious accusations.

She has made a good number of racist remarks herself over the years. Having said that there have been a few times recently I have found myself in agreement with her - eg over assisted suicide.

Labour won fewer seats in 2019 but more votes: 9,708,816 votes in 2024 and 10,269,051 votes in 2019.

Labour got votes from just 20% of the electorate at the last election. They won because people didn’t vote Tory. They got a larger number of seats than they might have because the right-wing vote split.
