Story in today's Times

The Liberal Democrats have been accused of softening their stance on women’s rights after accepting hundreds of thousands of pounds from one of Britain’s biggest financial backers of transgender causes.

Ruddick has spoken publicly about his daughter coming out as trans and said: “I hope at least that made it a little easier for her to know that I was someone who supported LGBTQI rights.”

He said: “Transgender is a complicated issue unless you’re a parent, then it is very simple.”

See, people have always said follow the money, another political party bought and paid for. 🤮

IrnBruAndDietCoke · 27/07/2026 06:32

People on another thread are saying Reform are no longer credible for taking money from Tice. Obviously that’s no bad thing that they’ve lost credibility over it, but surely what’s good for the goose is good for the gander so the Lib Dems should stop being seen as even vaguely credible after this (I’m never really sure who saw either of these parties as credible in the first place but they do seem to get votes).

No self-interest groups should be able to buy policy and I think it’s happening with every party, I’d very much like an inquiry but suspect no one will self incriminate by investigating because their own skeletons will get thrown up too.

The libdems have accepted hundreds of thousands of £ from Ferring Pharmaceuticals, a company that makes puberty blockers, for years. They promote the teaching of trans ideology in primary schools. I thought this was well known. They are very much TWAW.

It definitely smacks of rich daddy buying spoilt brat daughter a pony.

100%. But also goes to show how easily the Lib Dems can be bought.

All of the above.

He/she/xsie who pays the piper calls the tune.

Even in these postmodern times, the basics of economic determinism still explain a great deal.

Edited

The Reform/Farage thing is a bit different. They have got into trouble for either not declaring a relevant donation or, it is alleged, concealing the source of funds (with the help of a convicted money launderer who calls Farage 'Daddy'...)

'Cash for questions' is illegal, and donors must be from a permissible source (e.g. a company registered in the UK), but as long as donations are transparent, it's not illegal for a self interest group to influence a political party. Union funding and influence is built in to the structure of the Labour Party.

Wonder if the daughter is actually a son. That’s what Google seems to be suggesting: Simon Ruddick, the co-founder and former Chairman of financial advisory firm Albourne Partners, has publicly shared that his child came out as a transgender woman, transitioning from his son to his daughter

JellySaurus · 27/07/2026 09:56

He said: “Transgender is a complicated issue unless you’re a parent, then it is very simple.”

Really? Simple, is it? Tell that to the parents of Bayswater Support. Tell that to the parents on Mumsnet, many of whom have direct experience of transgenderism influencing their children. Tell that to the parents who maintained a calm, rational, supportive life while watchfully waiting for years until their child worked through their confusion/social contagion/normal adjustment to puberty/diagnosis of ND/revelation of SA, eventually to come out the other side. Tell that to the parents who see their child self-harming through surgery, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Tell that to the parents who weep only when their dc can’t see their desperate worry about and care for their children. Tell that to the parents whose marriages or partnerships crumbled under the stress.

No. Only a simpleton thinks it’s simple.

Haha amazing. And totally LD thinking unfortunately.

Great in many areas. Entitled tossers in others.

Igmum · 27/07/2026 10:26

Glad it’s making the headlines (I don’t think the Ferring ones did). What are our children worth? According to the LibDems, a few hundred grand and they will sell them down the river. Pure evil.

It's disgusting. Many of the LibDem policies are very thoughtful & sensible, but if they don't know what a woman is, they are not fit to run the country.

Yes. I voted LD prior to all of this. Wouldn't go near them now though.

It's frustrating as they were really sensible on many issues.

I'd say it is the other way around. It really is a simple issue, complicated when one's own child is caught up in it all and this threatens your relationship with them.

Not if you can buy your son something to make him happy. 🤔

Well, given most kids who claim transness have comorbidities, what's he/the family/people with access been up to, that his child has succumbed to the cult?

TheKeatingFive · 27/07/2026 13:02

This has been common knowledge for a while though, hasn't it.

No of course they can't be trusted.

I am willing to bet there is something similar going on with the SNP. Whether its money or other kind of perks/privileges I don't know.

MumOfYoungTransAdult · 27/07/2026 13:17

Ah. If Ruddick has a son who's claiming to be a daughter then that puts a different face on things than the other way round. Parents prefer not to think our sons have a transvestic fetish or AGP and a surprising number of parents would rather not think our son's an effeminate gay man either. "Trans" simplifies all those things by sweeping them neatly out of sight.

The rot runs deep/

Young Liberals just released a manifesto which ignores reality. Reviewed here:

Women’s rights cannot be sidelined
Finally, the proposal to reform the Gender Recognition Act to allow self-identification lacks both common sense and a proper evidence base. There is a clear conflict between what some trans individuals feel entitled to and the harms that flow to women. Following Mill’s utilitarianism, when rights collide the decision must rest on what produces the greatest good for the greatest number. That greater number are those born female. The scale of potential harm across single-sex spaces, fairness in sport, safeguarding, and data integrity is substantial. This is not a position grounded in liberalism; it is one that has been advanced by ideologues.

Like the male donor who cuckooed his way into the (now defunct and always foolish but even so) Women’s Equality Party.
