Today's the day but I can't find anything in the media. Anyone know anything?

Oh, and on "managing the practicalities", there is no way one can believe that trans people have something real in common with the opposite sex that others do not, something that makes them actually, empirically more like the opposite sex than anyone else of their actual sex is, without adding to the simple reality of sex some layer of "part of being a man is that you think/feel a certain way so if you think/feel the wrong way you are not really a proper man, maybe actually even a woman" or vice versa.

So any "managing the practicalities" that assumes some degree of accepting how a person feels makes them actually more like the opposite sex than other people are and therefore that sometimes it's ok to expect that they be treated as if they are that sex is always going to be an intrinsically sexist and offensive act.

Keeping sex (legal and social) as just simply sex but adding more gender neutral facilities and workign towards less gendered everyday language (ie society accomodating trans people's practical needs with the position of "you don't feel like others of your sex, fair enough, but you aren't actually any closer to the opposite sex than anyone else is") is probably the most reasonable practical position to take.

HTH.

I condemn islamophobia
I would condemn any Muslim who wilfully harms others

I condemn transphobia
I would condemn any trans person who wilfully harms others

Do you accept that a social movement that seeks to remove women (in the original female sense)'s legal rights and legal and social recognition as a distinct and meaningful group in our own right, that seeks to underply the significance of our sex in the explotation, marginalisation and abuse we face and to redefine us based on feelings and stereotypes regardless of how we may see ourselves and understand our own lives, experiences and needs, and that uses aggressive direct action to promote its aims, is willfully harming women?

So you condemn all trans people, as a precaution?

Trans people are not particularly visible in the media or fully represented, even on issues that directly affect them.

No, we condemn male people in female people's spaces, services and sports, however those male people like to present.
I would have thought that was obvious by now.

Neither are women.

They (trans identifying males) are very often called on to comment on issues that affect women, though women’s views are not sought. Trans identifying people are extremely visible, pandered to at every opportunity by sections of the media such as the BBC and Guardian, unfortunately.

Exactly, or did I dream all those Women's Hour episodes where they wouldn't get an actual woman on to talk but instead got a man in a dress.

Of course they are visible in the media 🙄

Far more so than the percentage of the population would dictate as accurate representation.

SodThisHeadache · 26/07/2026 16:04

"Trans people are not particularly visible in the media or fully represented, even on issues that directly affect them"

Where have you been? The BBC has its own LGBTQ correspondent, and they mainly talk to and about trans-identifying men especially how vulnerable and marginalised they are. For years we had women's rights an child safeguarding portrayed as 'transphobic'.

I will agree with you in that what is not fully represented is when a trans-identifying man commits a crime (they'll be referred to as if they are women)*, or they gain an accolade that belongs to a woman (BBC's 100 Woman; BBC's Sportswoman of the year have each had a transidentifying man in there since their inception).

*Male crimes reported as female crimes by the BBC:
Hollie/Ryder Hansom
Nicole/Kobi Earle
Joanna Rowland-Stuart (we don't even know his previous name but he murdered his partner with a machete)
Scarlet Blake/Fangze Wang
Nathan/Naomi O'Brien
Isobel Murphy
Zara Jade
Zoe/Kyle Watts
Jessica/Alan Brennan
Debra/Christopher Wright
Katie Birtles/ Robert O'Farrell

You can google these and you'll find there are murderers, paedophiles, rapists and a transwoman who stole nappies out of a bin and smeared their contents o around the site of a nursery

But I expect that's not what you are referring to...

You've got to be kidding.
Some days I feel like trans people are all I see in media - mainstream and social.

It feels as if EVERYTHING needs to be made about trans. I'm so fed up with it.
Only Christmas pages and cat videos remain uncorrupted (so far)

Oh and anything do to with promoting Reform/Restore

DialSquare · 26/07/2026 17:27

Some of them are a bit too visible (talking about you, Fred)

murasaki · 26/07/2026 18:03

To be fair to Fred, it was thigh fat rather than a stray bollock. Apparently.

Still gross viewing, of course.

booksnbaking · 26/07/2026 18:21

“Still we bloom through the cracks”
”Together we will always beat hate “
”Our voice cannot be denied”
“We’re all different - we’re all loved “
”I am born this way”
”No label can define me - no box can confine me”
”Thus world is not fair - but we must try to make it so “

and especially

“These people want me dead - but I won’t make it easy “

Some of them are so close, aren’t they? Just one more tiny step …

Why didn’t these placards get replicated in the lovely affirming quilt?

Too difficult to stitch, too much text that the quilting would distort it, and... not pretty enough?

It’s ultraviolent ex con Sarah-Jane Baker.

Lalgarh · Yesterday 08:58

Does he turn up at the pro Palestine marches as well.

I was checking social media last night and Owen Jones et al had found time to tweet about the trans pride march against the hateful TERF Nazis but not mentioned a Thing about the terror attack at Berlin pride

https://nitter.net/owenjonesjourno/status/2081413845352948052#m

The attack is actually demonstrating the persecution these groups face but he seems to be trying to find the right thing to say because it must occur to him that a significant proportion of the people they are proffering solidarity to actually despise them

I agree and actually said that on a thread here at the time. But yes, still far too much visibility, no matter what we were seeing!

He'll probably come up with something about the oppressive structures of capitalism forcing persecuted minorities into conflict.

EmpressaurusKitty · Today 08:51

I expect he’ll blame nasty women for influencing them. Everyone knows islamists listen to us.
