Judge in trans military ban case demands Pentagon explain Hegseth’s testosterone double standard

Judge Ana Reyes is demanding answers about a policy that offers testosterone to some troops while citing hormone care to remove others.

Hegseth is one of Trumps nutter appointees but I'm not sure this is the gotcha the Judge may think it is

"Troops found to have low testosterone may voluntarily receive testosterone replacement therapy, known as TRT, as part of their periodic health assessments."

The hormones given to 'transIDing' people aren't to push their testosterone up to normal parameters, so there's no equivalence.

It sounds like the equivalent of saying that there’s no difference because puberty blockers being used to treat precocious puberty and being used to stop kids’ normal development.

For cartoon-character action-man-GI-Joe Hegseth, who, if you pull a string in his back says things like :

Lethality is our calling card and victory our only acceptable end state.

No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement, just common sense, maximum lethality and authority for warfighters.

We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt and kill the enemies of our country.

Should our enemies choose foolishly to challenge us, they will be crushed by the violence, precision and ferocity of the War Department

Move out and draw fire, because we are the War Department. Godspeed.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth Addresses General and Flag Officers at Quantico, Virginia > U.S. Department of War > Transcript | U.S. Department of War

'soldiers' sounds sissy to him, they have to be called 'warfighters' now.

And obviously warfighters need testosterone! lots of it!
including female warfighers? Has that been clarified?

I agree with TheywontletmehavethenameIwant that it isn't a double standard -
giving T as effectively a 'hormone replacement therapy' for men, is not the same a giving cross-sex hormones to trans people who never had the hormones in the first place.

Looking at the judge’s history she was involved in the original hearings about hormones and TP and was extremely critical of the decision. This then lead to a complaint about her which was later dismissed. She is openly LGBT… (obviously that makes no sense but is one of the letters) appointed by Biden.

Exactly. Doesn’t seem all that difficult to me.

I agree.

Do the British, or other armed forces, offer testosterone to their troops?

I don't think so, I can't remember it ever being mentioned in the press but we don't have a Hegseth in charge. 😂

It's not exactly the same as hormone therapy for trans people but ...

  • It sounds like they will be testing older service members for low T and prescribing T if levels are below a certain amount. But mens T levels naturally decrease as they age. So if the "normal" level they are looking for is the norm for a 23 year old then that is going to be unnatural for a lot of older men. Doctors will prescribe Testosterone to older men who come to them with symptoms and then are diagnosed with lower testosterone. That's completely different to testing all (presumably) non-synotomatic men and diagnosing those with lower T as being low T. It is pathologising a norm basically. The difference between normal T levels for a man in his forties and normal T levels for a transman (female) obviously aren't the same. But trying to bring both to a male 23 year olds is an unnatural intervention
  • part of the logic for banning hormone treatment in the US army was the issues with providing drugs etc on the front lines. They have quite strict rules about deployment fitness for obvious reasons. But a man who starts taking T has the same issues around deployment fitness. Stopping taking T suddenly can be quite catastrophic because the body stops making as much when it's provided as a supplement. So its not like they can just take all the older men off T if they need to be deployed
