GLP target Sex Matters again - Charity Commission

GLP published a blog post yesterday about reporting Sex Matters to the Charity Commission for transphobia.

https://goodlawproject.org/sex-matters-are-breaking-charity-law-with-transphobic-hate-were-taking-action/

It seems they are lacking court cases to work on so are trying to silence SM again.

I couldn't see a thread on this but I'll delete if there is another one!

Sex Matters are breaking charity law with transphobic hate – we’re taking action | Good Law Project

We’ve made a formal complaint to the Charity Commission and the government, citing 46 examples of offensive transphobia

Grifters gotta grift.

Has he not got enough foxes to beat to death with a baseball bat?

He really is a sad, angry little man.

Helleofabore · 23/07/2026 11:22

GLP are determined to discredit SM, aren’t they. They are giving it a red hot go.

I am sure this will fail … again.

BiologicalRobot · 23/07/2026 11:25

I still don't know the meaning of transphobia. I suspect that GLP thinks biological sex is transphobic in which case they have no case.

I guess GLP are at least spending their grift instead of hoarding it overseas, but maybe they are of the mistaken belief that the RSOH will continue putting their hands into their pockets.

NotBadConsidering · 23/07/2026 11:28

It’s a great post collating all the mad stuff TRAs have done.

He also uses terms like “transness”. He’s so transphobic!

Leavesandthings · 23/07/2026 11:35

I find it grifty that they are marketing the singular complaint as a whole "campaign" on their website.

Apart from the Charity Commission complaint, what does their campaign involve? On what grounds, after submission of their complaint, do they require further funding elicited from the Donate Now banner?

The GLP have another webpage where you can send a template of an email to Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport & the Chair of the Charity Commission including your own sentence on why it's important to you.

If one were so minded one then one could enter spoof names, emails & messages but that would be childish.😀

Dear Lisa Nandy,

I am writing following a complaint made by Good Law Project to the Charity Commission concerning offensive and inappropriate communications made by the charity Sex Matters and those representing it.

That complaint includes 46 incidents, which – taken together – Good Law Project believe amount to misconduct and mismanagement of the charity. It evidences conduct which goes far beyond the mere expression of “gender critical” views. The complaint asks for the Commission to exercise its regulatory powers to the fullest possible extent, including the removal and disqualification of the existing trustees and the opening of a statutory inquiry.

But this is also reflective of a wider problem. Charity status brings significant tax breaks and access to special funding, much of it subsidised by the tax-paying public. Taxpayer money should not be being used to subsidise hate, particularly against vulnerable minorities – such as trans people.

The Public Sector Equality Duty requires public authorities to have due regard to the need to prevent harassment and discrimination against those with protected characteristics, and to foster good relations between people who have a protected characteristic and those who do not.

The Government and the Charity Commission must take immediate action to prevent charities from using their charitable status to spread hate against trans people, as well as other vulnerable groups.

I ask you to outline the steps you will be taking to investigate the proliferation of charities who behave in this manner, and what failures have allowed this to happen. I also ask you to explain what changes will be made to ensure such harm is prevented in future.

I hate Trans Rights Activists (TRA)

Taxpayer money must not be used to fund hate.

Your sincerely
Joanne Rowling

Stop Sex Matters spreading transphobic hate

The anti-trans pressure group Sex Matters are running a campaign of hate, spewing abuse online and in the media – and putting trans people in danger. Sex Matters say they work to “protect everybody’s human rights”, but they’ve been attacking trans peop...

Ah so there is at least one other aspect of the campaign then, with the letter writing.

All this while Jolyon purposefully set up his organisation (now offshore) to avoid ANY regulatory scrutiny.

That’s what I was thinking. The GLP aren’t a charity even though they act like one.

Sex Matters are a very effective organisation. TRAs hate that.

mrshoho · 23/07/2026 11:56

Yes was just thinking how efficient and grown up SM organisation is.

mrshoho · 23/07/2026 12:01

Wow that post dissappeared pdq. Touched a nerve

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 12:01

Haha I saw it before it went

nicepotoftea · 23/07/2026 12:24

I wonder what the strategy is here?

The likely outcome is not that the Charity Commission agrees and removes SM from the register.

Are they aware of this and just trying to raise funds and be a nuisance, hoping that nobody notices when it all fizzles out, or are they sincere?

Leavesandthings · 23/07/2026 13:36

I think their long term plan is to defang the GC movement by imposing massive restrictions on the expression of GC belief.

I think this attempt is sincere in that they are hoping to cause a big fuss that puts their twisting of SM words in the spotlight. Whether the complaint is successful or not, they want to discredit SM in the process.

OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 14:10

I hope Jolyon Maugham’s libel case brought by Sarah Phillimore will be similarly in the spotlight, and who exactly he was supporting when he made the allegations against Sarah.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 23/07/2026 14:15

The process is the punishment, their only goal is to wear SM's down with vexatious complaints after vexatious complaints. Tying up time and money with lawfare and bureaucratic procedures, SM aren't a bottomless money pit, GLP are trying to ruin them.
With any luck the CC will put their complaint on the bottom of the pile, they've got their hands full with Amnesty at the moment and they're only so many working hours in a decade. 😁

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 14:17

Have SM commented at all?

Brainworm · 23/07/2026 14:55

I think they are trying to stay relevant to their target audience. The opening line calling SM an ‘anti trans’ organisation is surely designed to get push back.

I suspect JM is concerned about the level of attention Amnesty is getting and in doing so is being positioned as the organisation that has the back of trans people.

I like the juxtaposition of "non-violent" and a hammer held in two hands...

And I love Maya's "facepalm" response 😂

Mmmnotsure · 23/07/2026 15:06

Quotes out of context again, eh, Jolyon?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/07/2026 15:11

What does it take for these people to get labelled ‘vexatious’? Surely the number of baseless allegations they make, people must get tired of having to follow it up?
