If this man were one of your work colleagues, would you be happy pussy-footing around him and calling him 'she/her' in case of a massive temper-tantrum?

Would you be happy sharing a changing room with him (if you were, say, a nurse)?

Edited

If this was your daughter who was having a meltdown in Asda because they didn't have the right kind of pasta, would you be happy for her to be plastered on the internet and called a Karen?

DarkchocolateAndtea · Yesterday 23:01

FinchiePink · Yesterday 22:59

I'm assuming that someone who says they are trans is very likely autistic.

The coincidence of autism with trans identities has been discussed in depth on this forum, which as a regular poster I'm surprised you don't know.

You cannot speculate though, and make sweeping generalisations. This person is clearly mentally ill.

WhenImClownin · Yesterday 23:01

This^ Let's not bring ND into it please.

Edited

I'm autistic and so are all 4 of my kids. Its tiring and stressful being ND but believe me, non of us would EVER behave this way.

I'm so sick of autism being used as some cover for poor behaviour, especially by entitled, boundary pushing men.

MyThreeWords · Yesterday 23:02

WhenImClownin · Yesterday 22:55

Can I see the proof you have this person IS autistic and not just an entitled troon?

I think a lot of people who have had experience of interacting with their own children/teens with a demand avoidant presentation of autism can recognise from experience that this person probably is autistic. It was certainly my gut feeling and reminded me of meltdowns I have tried (as badly as this stressed police officer!) to handle.

Whether or not he is also entitled (in addition to being massively emotionally disregulated) could probably only be assessed when talking with him in a calm state.

I don't doubt that the culture of entitlement in the trans ecosphere will have harmed him -- making it harder for him to practice self-regulation by encouraging him to think that other people are under an obligation to validate him in his trans identity.

Mentally ill or autistic - neither is an occasion to post them on the internet to make them a subject of derision.

110% agree, I also have autistic family members and it is an insult to liken that behaviour to it. The person in the video is mentally ill and it has nothing to do with ND or NT.

Well trans people do not believe they are mentally ill for being trans so thats actually very transphobic of you.

He would say he is perfectly sane and reasonable for demanding you use his preferred pronouns.

To be clear, you're assuming that someone behaving badly must be autistic?

This.
It’s so bizarre how often people jump at the opportunity to label any behaviour as an indicator of autism , as if that would excuse them from any wrongdoing. It’s really worrying

If your gran was stood there also trying to get pasta while pushing her walker, would you care for her safety though? You can’t just let people shout, scream and roll around in the vicinity of other vulnerable people. He resisted any kind of help whatsoever. Do you think the staff thought oh he’s coming, call the police? No, they probably tried really hard to calm him down before calling.

I don’t know what the criteria for releasing these videos is, does something specific have to happen to trigger a video release? I don’t know. But if you want to blame anyone I think it should be the healthcare inequalities in the US. If you have good insurance you are scrabbling around at the end of the year to have an extra therapy session or a mole removed or a new brace just to use up your entitlement. If you don’t have it, tough. Just go and drown in a swamp or something.

BettyBooper · Yesterday 23:09

No.

Men do not get to behave however they like because they are

A) men
B) trans or
C) autistic

You have no idea whether this man is autistic or not. Take your guilt trip somewhere else. It's utterly insulting.

If they don’t identify as mentally ill they aren’t, and to claim anything else is a hate crime….

What exactly makes you think he is autistic? Do you think all autistic people behave like this??

He is a grown man having a tantrum because he was told no IMO

Where did I say he gets to behave however he likes? Receipts please.

I have a fairly good idea about whether or not he is autistic based on the trans identity and the behaviour in the video, and nor am I the only one to reach this conclusion on this thread.

I'm not sure you can brush away ableism as a "guilt trip".

At the risk of repeating myself: the links between trans identities and autism are strong and well-known. They have been discussed in depth on this forum.

If a person says they are trans, it is significantly likely they are also on the spectrum.

Combined with the behaviour in the video, I would be prepared to bet my house that the subject is autistic.

ElenOfTheWays · Yesterday 23:16

FinchiePink · Yesterday 22:43

To be honest I'm uncomfortable with these kinds of videos being held up to mock the individuals being filmed.

This is quite clearly someone struggling, almost certainly autistic and almost certainly having a meltdown. I think we all know well enough the rates at which autism coincides with a trans identity.

Autistic my arse! There are hordes of men like this stomping and tantrumming at Pride and at women's rights events. Waving threatening signs and banners.
Vandalising places that are hosting events they disapprove of, staging piss protests, threatening women online and in person.

Are they ALL autistic, or are they just entitled arseholes who've been indulged for years in this behaviour until they see it as a normal and acceptable response to being told no?

LunaShip · Yesterday 23:16

He, like many of these transwomen, seems very deeply unwell. Not too long ago he and those like him would be sectioned and in an asylum getting treatment. The whole of society suffers when people like this are unsectioned.

Mental health is causing the behaviour. I couldn't care a less if the individual is or isn't autistic; that isn't the cause.

I don’t know anyone who is autistic and trans. My circle of people with ASD is large.

I do however know people who claim to be trans who have learning disabilities. Different diagnosis.

I do understand why a pp is uncomfortable it makes me uncomfortable too. That said I can’t help but think this is the sort of person who is crazily aggressive with whoever misgenders him. That day it was a cop who clearly has all the power but a woman in a changing room or public toilet?

Looks very manly under that wig

I was thinking the same thing. He’s bolshie with a policeman who has a taser etc. His cough only softened a little when it was obvious the policeman wasn’t going to indulge him. Whist another Man would be better able to physically deal with him, it still took two police men to cuff him.

Imagine if he was in an enclosed space like toilets or changing rooms with a woman/women. I suspect if you even looked at him, he might be a potential danger if he was inclined to take a look as a challenge. Not saying he has done anything like that, but I personally wouldn’t take a chance as he is aggressive and volatile. I would regard him as a potential danger (just my honest opinion) and high tail it out of any enclosed space he was in.

When I'm having a meltdown, the pronouns other people use about me are not important. Autism doesn't automatically mean being delusional about one's sex.

Autistic people make up 40% of the kids referred to Tavi, so massively overrepresented in the trans-identifying population but still not "very likely" because 40% is less than half.

Entirely agree. I didn’t see anything in that video that would suggest that he’s Autistic. I’m privileged to have many wonderful Autistic young people in my life and I couldn’t imagine any of them behaving like that, even in a full-on sensory meltdown. The young man in the video is either profoundly mentally unwell or just another entitled AGP dickhead.

Really? You have managed to diagnose autism from him being 'trans' and his behaviour on an 8 minute YouTube video?

And from my doubt on your expert analysis, you label me 'ableist'? With no thought that this might be actually insulting to autistic people?

Ok then.
