The bloke pictured in that article isn't the same one shown in earlier photographs, in those he's clean shaven and there wouldn't be time for his beard to grow.

I was thinking of the one where he's setting off on the day and the hammer's sticking out of his pocket.

He's got quite a beard in the court drawing.

I do wonder what the motive was and the reasoning for the counter terrorism police becoming involved. There doesn't seem to be any background information online that would indicate the suspect is prone to such violence unless anyone else has found something? Why on earth would he travel all that way? And I'd also like to know what else the police are investigating Herbert for as there must be more.

21 hammer blows to the head sounds like personal hatred to me. Or a mental illness episode I guess.

Hair grows and hair can be cut. Photos can be taken many years ago and shown to people at a later date.

It hardly seems like a well thought out or well executed crime.

I'm certainly not saying it wasn't him or that there won't be fingerprints/DNA, just that it doesn't look to me like the same man.

One is a court drawing and one is a not too great image of a man from behind.

I wouldn't worry about it, there were either video cameras in the house or a video doorbell - they've quoted verbatim in court what he allegedly said when he allegedly arrived.

Remember all, this is still sub judice - be very careful.

The BBC report is just horrific and the thought of that happening to anyone, let alone an elderly lady in her own home, is very upsetting. Whoever did it.

I am surprisingly rather emotional at the idea. I hope Ann lost consciousness immediately and knew nothing.

I was in Court today and the court drawing (as court drawings tend to be) was not strictly accurate. The beard was not as thick as that. More 5-o'clock shadow. And he was pudgier and less pleasant-looking.
And yes, it was very upsetting to hear the ferocity of the attack.

Yes, I hope so. Without wanting to dwell on it, I imagine a hammer blow to the head would knock you out very quickly.

Ah right. Fair enough. Definitely looked very beardy in the drawing but the hair looked like the recent camera footage as opposed the older photo. I don't doubt it's the right man.

RIP Miss Widdecombe. I didn't agree with her political views at all but no one deserves such a terrible thing. I hope her attacker is suitably punished.

The trail is set for next June and the reporter was saying it's likely to give the authorities plenty time to investigate further planning etc that might maybe yield other charges

The whole thing is awful. I've been so upset to hear about the details; right there on the BBC website with no warning - 21 hammer blows. It's like something out of game of thrones, not real life. The violence that some men have towards women is unfathomable. And it's just relentless. Maybe I shouldn't even have that caveat "some" men. It's just men. I don't understand why half of our human race are just prone to such violence and sexual aggression and assault. Awful 😞 May Ann rest in peace and I hope the piece of shit who killed her is locked away for a long time. I also hope that the vile man who this thread is originally about is made to think twice about the type of person he is inside. Only a twisted person would think the words he posted were in any way appropriate to say. Imagine being that dead inside that you would say such horrible things about another human. 😢
