I’m completely confused by this advert.
What’s it advocating for?
it looks like a pisstake. Is it meant to be? That witless strapline ‘I support trans because I’m not a monster’ with the picture of a shark with scary teeth. Presumably because the shark is exactly what the advertisers think we think, IS a monster? (Even though actually it’s just an innocent shark… ?)
The text with that image makes the poster look to me like the shark is saying that it DOESN’T doesn’t ’support trans’… because the shark IS meant to be a monster. Is that what is the poster is really supposed to be saying… ?! Presumably not. but I really can’t see how we’re meant to read it any other way. Shouldn’t the poster image be of the opposite of what most people think is a monster? .. a fluffy kitten?
And what that fuck does ‘I support trans’ even mean? I’m as Terfy as the next decent woman is; but I support some young trans people in my life in extremely tangible ways, sooo…? Monster, or not monster, according to this campaign?
Why is anyone supposed to give a shit what GLP thinks? I don’t get it.
Has nobody told GLP that it’s usually incredibly demeaning to refer to a group of people just by their common characteristic? The phrase he’s looking for is surely ‘trans people’ or even ‘trans people’s rights to xyz’? I mean- maybe. I have no idea what this poster is advocating for, though
It’s really not normal to have to work this hard to fill in the blanks on a public billboard poster campaign. That means the poster costing hundreds of thousands to produce and place on hoardings, really hasn’t done its job. If I had ever donated to GLP, I’d be asking for a refund
