NMC drops case against nurse in sex and gender dispute

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has now dropped its cases against nurse Jennifer Melle, ruling there is no case to answer.
Jennifer had been reported to the NMC as an alleged “risk to the public” after refusing to use the preferred gender identity of a biologically male convicted paedophile patient, and later for speaking publicly about her ordeal.

Good, I'm glad they've finally caught up with the rest of us. 👏 Risk to the public for gods sake. 🙄

Great news!

But also infuriating.

She should be compensated for the nonsense they've put her through. I'm sure it's been a nightmare for her both professionally and privately.

Every time a public body kowtows to an ideologically driven witch hunt (with or without obligatory trial by media), they should compensate the victim of these vexatious accusations. Maybe then they will use their common sense a bit more. I mean how bloody long did they need to spend looking at this one before realising they were on a hiding to nothing? Someone has basically been paid with public money to stare at this case on and off for what? Two years?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 09/07/2026 14:51

How bloody dare they!

ACertainSenseOfLiberty · 09/07/2026 14:51

Let's hope the Darlington nurses are next.

Sadly they won't, because it's not their money. Look at how much money the NHS in Scotland wasted defending Dr Beth Upton - it would need to have been taken from the salaries of the people who made those decisions. I guarantee they'd have been more careful if they were likely to lose out themselves.

Good news indeed. Posting to bump

Spiritualangst · 09/07/2026 18:30

The NMC is funded by the nurses and midwives fees (not public money).
But yes it does seem a waste of time and money

teawamutu · 09/07/2026 21:08

Now do Darlington!

WittyLimeBiscuit · Yesterday 08:31

The NMC is not fit for purpose.
It owes Jennifer Melle, Sandie Peggie and the Darlington nurses a grovelling apology and hefty compensation for failing to defend their right to single-sex changing facilities.

anyolddinosaur · Yesterday 09:04

I'd like to think this indicates a return to sanity - but I wont believe it until they say the same about Sandie Peggie and the Darlington nurses. I fear this may be more about the optics of being seen to support a racist paedophile.
