Thank you for that sensible response to a serious article.
It kinda makes up for mine😄
I can be serious too:
I have always had a good feeling towards Robbie Ross - and Ada Leverson too- for his quiet, practical loyalty to his despised friend OW, and I was sorry to learn that the end of his life was blighted by - and possibly hastened by - this scandal.
The use of accusations of homosexuality as a weapon reminds me of the case of the Irish human rights campaigner and nationalist, Roger Casement.
After he was captured during the 1916 rebellion, the 'Black Diaries' with homosexual content were used to destroy his reputation at his trial.
He was found guilty and hanged as a traitor in Pentonville, unlike the other leaders of the Easter rebellion who were shot after courts-martial in Dublin.
The Black Diaries were long assumed to be forgeries, but it is now widely accepted that they were genuine - ironically, Casement was in fact gay.
