Andy Burnham does womaning better than women- or something

Not sure what can be said about this other than the Labour Party’s women problem doesn’t seem to be improving.

Andy Burnham may care about the issues women care about (stereotyping much?) but he was also Secretary of State for Health in 2009/2010 when the NHS was busy implementing self-ID by stealth across the UK’s NHS Trusts. I’d say he has some questions to answer.

Ridiculous isn’t it

JoyousOpalLemur · Yesterday 10:23

Did you see one of his supporters said he will be Labour's first female PM because he's so women friendly!

It should also be noted that the women he surrounds himself with are almost entirely pro self ID.

WTF, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I don't mind AB, but 'female' he is not.

Why do the labour party never fail to disappoint with this bollocks?

Do you know which imbecile made this laughable statement ?

ErrolTheDragon · Yesterday 11:35

Your link didn’t work for me. DH has subscriptions to various papers so hopefully this ‘gift’ link should work.

It’s fitting that gender-obsessed Labour has labelled Burnham a ‘woman’

To fix his glaring optics problem, the PM-in-waiting must appoint a female chancellor

Unbelievable. This is an actual quote!

...he would be Labour’s first female prime minister in “all but sex”. The heat is driving all Westminster stooges even more bats--t than usual.

He's not been named.

Tim Shippers reported on it in The Times, and said he's a senior Labour figure.

I hope he's named soon so I know who to judge 😁

MarieDeGournay · Yesterday 13:40

I'm guessing that it's evoking Toni Morrison saying that Bill Clinton - poor, Southern, raised by single mother, saxophone-playing - was 'the first Black President'.
She meant it metaphorically.

MyThreeWords · Yesterday 13:54

A senior Labour source has pointed out that “Andy ... had a passion for “female-orientated issues, and much less so with the bombs and budgets”.

But we need the manly man prime minister to do the manly manning of bombs and budgets. What will we do without him? I'd volunteer but bombs might chip my nail gel and my womb hurts when I do sums.

MaturingCheeseball · Yesterday 13:57

It’s pretty insulting that women don’t do budgets… Mind you, given Rachel Reeves it might be a good thing that we girlies don’t want to bother our heads with silly boring sums…

That was also an idiotic thing to say, metaphorical or not.

EasternStandard · Yesterday 14:26

‘Bombs and budgets’ my goodness how are they still functioning

BiologicalRobot · Yesterday 15:14

Fuck me. Someone said "Hold my beer" when talking about who is the biggest idiot didn't they? 😦

UtopiaPlanitia · Yesterday 15:27

Labour party sexism rears it's head once again 🙄 Now we know why they haven't elected a female leader, they're worried that her fragile little girlie brain couldn't cope with macho things like sums and bombs and they don't want her to have to suppress her womanly essence like those nasty female Tory party leaders are forced to do.

I mean...FFS

Idlewilder · Yesterday 15:52

Did a senior Labour source really say this? The bit about "all but sex" is in italics and out of context. Your claim that "gender obsessed Labour has labelled Burnham a woman" is a bit of a stretch.

zanahoria · Yesterday 16:08

Andy thinks he does everything better than everyone else

zanahoria · Yesterday 16:11

Not only has there never been a female leader of the labour party, no female candidate has ever finished higher than one of her male rivals. The women finish in the last places every single time.

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 16:14

Why is he being conveyed as some sort of handsome idol? He’s pleasant enough looking, but in no way could he be described as handsome!

It's an issue throughout the party. The women are good enough to do the grunt work, make the tea etc but they better shut up when the men are talking. They berate everyone else for being prejudiced in myriad ways but can't take the massive plank out of their own eyes. I am willing to bet that they would vote for a trans woman to be leader and declare they have a female leader worthy of the job at long last. There would just be something about them that they can't quite put their finger on...of course they have never had a Black or Asian leader either, despite the Tories being on their second with little fuss ( apart from from them and their Leftist travellers) despite them having more female and more black and Asian MPs.

When I used to vote Labour, the pro-male Labour stance was referred to as 'after the revolution sister'.
Nothing changes and the worst thing is they just can't see it.

WhatterySquash · Yesterday 18:56

Couldn't believe it when I heard this. How sexist can you get? And how completely misunderstand the concept of women as an actual material group of people who are consistently held back and belittled within Labour.

It's not as if the women who have actually been PM have stood for "feminine" values or even women's issues. It's so telling that despite that, whoever said this can only see women as somehow staying in a "womanly" lane.

On top of that I could almost understand it (though it would still be sexist) if AB was an actual champion of women, who actually listened to women or cared about women as a sex class. He's shown he doesn't. He's also pretty macho IMO.

I do think he's good-looking - he's one of those men who have such thick dark eyelashes it looks like eyeliner. I don't find him appealing myself as he's so up himself (and misogynist in the classic labour tradition) but I can see the handsome thing. More so that Keir anyway who always looks like he's gone on holiday and suddenly reaslied he left the oven on.

I've seen it since my teen years 40 years ago growing up in a northern town and knowing lots of Labour members. Women could play a role and sometimes were even respected but they were always ultimately sidelined. I'm not sure it's always conscious but it's a kind of deep-seated attitude that women are a kind of support system and not the real deal.

MaturingCheeseball · Yesterday 19:08

Who is the “senior Labour spokesperson” who said this? If it’s a man, it’s horribly sexist; if it’s a woman I despair. Women don’t care about budgets? Gosh, those sound like the words of someone who is completely THICK.

not sure who that was responding to but the ‘claim’ and context are in the article I linked to by Suzanne Moore.
