Surrey Pride cancelled for this year due to lack of funding

Surrey Pride has been postponed until 2027, organisers have announced.
Pride in Surrey said rising costs and a decline in pledged corporate sponsorship had made it "impossible to proceed" with the event.
The parade and festival in Guildford were due to take place on 8 August.
Organisers said in a statement posted on Facebook they were making the announcement with "great sadness".
"This year, many Pride events across the country have faced similar cancellations," they wrote.
"We sincerely appreciate your understanding during this difficult time."
It comes after Surrey County Council withdrew its official support for the 2025 event, meaning its staff and services did not officially attend.
The local authority said at the time Pride in Surrey was not "truly representative" of the whole LGBTQ+ community following "concerns" that had been raised.
Stephen Ireland, the former founder of the county event, was jailed for raping a 12-year-old boy in June 2025.
The BBC understands this was a factor in the authority's decision, although it had not actively sponsored Pride since 2021.

Given its abysmal record on safeguarding, this is good news for the people of Surrey, especially the more vulnerable ones who were so badly let down by all concerned before.

It would tell us a good deal about you as a person if you had the common decency to acknowledge that the red flags around the way Surrey Pride was run were completely ignored for far too long, making it possible for the founder to sexually abuse children. He is now serving a long prison sentence for that. The fact that you have instead jumped straight to abusing us for being concerned about this is very telling.

That is excellent news. I hope the postponement becomes permanent. Prudential as a movement has been corrupted and hollowed out by men with a desire to dismantle the boundaries between adults and children for sexual purposes.

8 out of 1350 male Pride officers (assuming a standard 50:50 split in the organisers sex, 8:2700 if all male) have convictions for sex offences - I think mostly child related.

With the determination to ignore safeguarding story by many involved, and denial of the blatantly obvious sexualised nature of many participants, there may well be many more. Time to disclosure for children and the shocking rates of protection will lower the numbers we know about now.

There have been horrors like child drag queen competitions, men with visible butt plug tails, stalls with sex toys on display etc.

All while it advertises itself to the community as ‘family friendly’.

Don’t forget the public sex acts. More than once I’ve seen men giving g blow jobs out in the open at supposedly family-friendly Pride events.

Most of us here are pretty thick-skinned, so no, I don't feel abused, but what you've written here is clearly meant to be abusive, surely.

Still waiting for you to tell me what kind of person I am based on my views on Pride?

Well, I’d like to know exactly what kind of person you think I am because I care about child safeguarding and homosexuals not being abused for y’know being exclusively same-sex attracted, if you’d be so kind to enlighten me?

Happy to be a bigot if it means not standing for men including children in their kinks and lesbians being abused for being lesbians!

I'd hazard a guess that in spite of being a lesbian @Lifein2046 is also homophobic, queerphobic and funded by the US evangelicals and MAGA supporters. Hmm

So what is it about RAPING CHILDREN that you support Natty?

Is it small minded to not see the need to celebrate men wearing bondage gear, nappies and butt plugs? Maybe it is, you tell me. I doubt anyone on this site particularly cares what they do in private (as long as it's legal and consensual), and it's not illegal to indulge in kinks. So what are they actually celebrating?

You haven’t actually said anything though. You’ve just called us all thick and small minded ignoring the fact that the thing we are objecting to is a lack of child safeguarding.

Fillies4DeclanRice · 16/06/2026 18:51

I'm really surprised the Pride in Surrey story isn't a bigger one - it should be a national scandal.

The Lib Dems gave taxpayer funding to them last year AFTER the chairman was jailed for raping a child.

And the BBC and police were so desperate to appear inclusive that they helped give a paedophile - who had so many red flags surrounding him - access to vulnerable children.

Ilikeanicecupofteainthemorning · 16/06/2026 18:56

Lifein2046 · 16/06/2026 17:52

Well, last time I went there were men dressed in puppy fetish gear getting kids to pet them and lesbians being abused because they do t believe that men are women and therefore won’t have sex with them. That’s what it’s become and what I want no part of.

I can confirm this account
some lesbians had banners and were shouting such controversial things as

a lesbian is a female homosexual
there is no such thing as a lesbian with a penis

for this crime they were screamed over by a bunch of men who also encouraged a bunch of teenagers to surround the lesbians and drown them out

I got into conversation with a bystander who asked what all the fuss was about, and I explained that some men, who 'identify as women' think they should be welcomed as sexual partners by lesbians, and shame and ostracise any who refuse (putting it mildly). The woman looked shocked and said
'that's a bit...rapey isn't it?' to which I could only agree

KilkennyCats · 16/06/2026 18:57

Excellent 👍

Weeallthewayhome · 16/06/2026 19:03

Hopefully the rest of these dull self-indulgent displays of clichéd perversion will follow suit.

Nothing more tedious than an autogynephile in bad shoes mansplaining womanhood. Emperor’s new clothes.

NattySnake
Have I abused you?

Well, yes.
You have indiscriminately called people on this thread
small-minded
intolerant
spiteful
feeble
stupid

I called those terms of vulgar abuse, myself. I have things I could call you, but having better manners than you do, I shall refrain.

BelleHathNoFury · 16/06/2026 19:22

The thing is that gay men, lesbians and bi people marching to demand acceptance and equality was right and good and worthy of pride.

Well they've got equality so why do they need to march?
