Dundee girl with axe verdict- Ilia Belov found guilty of assault and injury

The Dundee girl who brandished an axe has been vindicated today as the court case has proved that she acted in self defence, her sister was attacked by the adults Ilia Belov and his sister.
Ilia Belov has today been convicted of assault and injury and making sexual remarks to a child.
The court heard previously that the 12-year-old girl Belov attacked admitted pulling a knife and axe from her waistband, but only after Belov had assaulted her.
The girl told the trial previously that her sister started to shout at Belov after the remarks, but the pair were pulled away by a friend.
She then told the court Belova approached the group, pushed her and threw her sister to the ground.

At the time the girl was believed to be the aggressor by many, particularly Freddy Sayers, editor of UnHeard, who called the reaction to the video 'propaganda slop' and Kathleen Stock's article, which did not defend or show much sympathy for the girls although the 12 year old is clearly scared in the video, but was concerned about the right wing narrative on X which emerged as it fitted the narrative of anti immigrant propaganda.

There were (are?) grooming gangs operating in Dundee that the girls may have heard rumors of.
I don't know what it is like growing up in one of the roughest estates in the UK.

Carrying knives has the potential to increase risk for children, especially girls who could be more easily overpowered and disarmed by boys and men, who could then use the knives on them.

We need proper community policing so that girls feel safe and protected in public spaces.

Yes and then claim self defense

@GreyskySexRealistsky I think @BunnyBunbunbun post sums it up, disbelief of the white working class child, judgement and the nasty faux naive questioning. Reminds me of the "White men rape too" on threads where women are literally terrified of gangs of migrant men in their communities.
We are on the brink of serious social collapse in this country but they persist. Blame the local child, protect the adult man she is frightened of. Dog whistle politics remember - look where that thinking has got this shitty government.

Wow, talk about totally twisting someone's words - and you know nothing about my class background! I wasn't even talking in the context of the brave girl in Dundee but the wider principle you seem to be advocating, that people should carry kinves for self defence. I asked you if you leave the house carrying an axe and knife and if you really think it's safe for everyone to wander around carrying knives, given the big potential for things to go wrong.

He followed 4 young girls, and started shouting sexual things at them. He hit this young girl’s head against a railing when he assaulted her. When he got his sister involved, the sister punched the other girl’s head on the ground.

Barely out of single digits, and these girls are receiving knocks to their heads, and being hounded by predators. I could weep for them.

We know of this one horrendous incident. However, if this man was preying on (and assaulting) 12 year old girls, it is such a predatory thing to do that I wouldn’t be too sure it is isolated. Otherwise, not a creep, and only on this one instance. Nah, not buying it. They are going to ‘consider’ if he should go on the sex offender’s register. That is simply incredible.

So, this man lied about the girls approaching him, with a race hate claim. This brought the police running. The police issued a statement condemning ‘misinformation’, which they ‘corrected’ by stating that the man and his sister were approached by ‘youths’. This was itself misinformation (or is it disinformation) from the police. John Swinney involved himself by reiterating the misinformation. When do these authorities have to answer at the cavalier way they spread disinformation/misinformation themselves? I suppose at least the police arrived. Would they have bothered if it was ‘just’ that the girls had been assaulted? It truly seems the time for predatory men has arrived.

I suppose it will be of no surprise if the sentence for sexual harassment/ assault/ grooming of these girls turns out to be absolutely pathetic.

Your "hope" is not realistic, considering the way the grooming gang victims were treated by the police.

Girls like these often don't have the access/knowledge/skills/support to request protection from the State that girls from other social classes or nicer areas often do. And girls from this class are less likely to be taken seriously when they are asking for help (as we have seen reported in newspapers for decades in the UK) and any help they receive is probably very limited.

I was so disappointed when I saw women like Stock and Bindel castigating these young girls for being racist because it's very easy to tell from the video that the wee girls are frightened and the girl who has the axe and the knife is trying to act tough to scare away the adult man who's harassing them. She made what she believed was the best choice she could at the time and I don't blame her for dealing with the immediate threat rather than trying to engage with police/state bureaucracy instead.

To quote Róisín Michaux: "You meet more perverts when you're poor."

So there's a grooming gang active in the city. Join the dots.

@AlphaApple you have no experience here, and clearly do not live in a community like the one this happened in. The Police are terrifying to most poor children. I was taught by my parents to run away from them and hide. I got over it and reported a sexual assault when I was at University, in 1996. Guess what? I was told I was lying, assaulted by the Police and locked in a cell for 19hrs. My dad came and rescued me. I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2012. This is common.

Read Maggie Oliver on the police's attitudes. She was in the police and left due to this.

With respect, you have no idea what my life experience is. I’m truly sorry for what you went through, and I don’t wish any woman or girl to go through the same.

I still say the answer to “incompetent police” is not “arm children”.

Apologies if this has already been posted. It gives insight into the prevalence of crime in Dundee and how certain crimes have doubled since 2007. It also talks of the area in Bulgaria where the convicted pair are from. A gypsy clan that live by a set of rules incompatible to ours. You really wouldn't want to be any near these people. Lola, Ruby and friends showed great courage and were badly let down at the beginning of this by our politians and police force.

Is being attacked a common, everyday occurrence in Dundee? So everyone should carry knives then, and we can witness a lot more incidents like the murder of Henry Nowak.

Are you afraid when you step out of the house? Do you carry knives and axes with you for self defence?

No, but i live in London and travel around on my own most days, i carry a can of hairspray, a lighter and an afro style comb, which are not illegal as they are bona fide women's toiletry items and for smoking - but plainly would make useful accessories in a dire situation. I have been assaulted and threatened on London transport so many times that i no longer feel safe. But women are meant to just suck it up i guess. A female friend had the start of her working day set later so she could avoid rush hour havibg been groped so iftem, that's what London is like for lone women - it's a jungle

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · Yesterday 17:50

@AlphaApple I am not suggesting that is the answer, I am suggesting the reason she had a weapon was because she was terrified of being attacked. All the time. I have spent long periods of my life like this. I do not know anything about you but cannot believe any woman who has lived in somewhere like this would make the comments you have. Women need to listen to children, understand their experience and campaign for change.

The current government have repeatedly described the rape of working class children by adult men as a "racist dog whistle". This is what informs the behaviour of the Police and courts.

That is horrific assault. Why has he not been jailed?

Well it's plain to see Ms Bindel's crusades against violence on women and girls is a pile of Dog S* . She's more interested in her anti racist credentials.

If, god forbid, your daughter had been assaulted and injured by an adult male I would hope that you would tell her to call the police.

And I hope the police would believe her.

Even after they arrested her, they put out a statement accusing her of 'misinformation'. So I think we can safely say there would be zero help from them.

ktopfwcv · Yesterday 18:05

This is an interesting read as I know how young black boys are convicted for doing the same.

Gangs and girls from poor council estates. White middle class liberals piling on the girls and police disbelieving them. Sounds familiar. Shame on Bindel and Stock. We know where we stand with you now.

Why on earth was the girl carrying a knife and an axe? That is surely illegal?

She wasn't it was a hatchet not an axe

YourAmplePlumPoster · Yesterday 18:12

It's very plain to see the visceral hatred of white working class people from middle class liberals in this case. The girls were "Neds" from a council estate so must be "white supremacists" of some kind. With this level of hatred, no wonder they go for Reform or some other sectarian Party.

I think the "misinformation" was general online speculation wasn't it? Which can jeopardise the court case.

She should not have been carrying these weapons but given a grooming gang from the same ethnicity as the perpetrator has just been sent down for crimes against women and girls in the same city, there was something going on. Join the dots.

I’m born and bred Lochee as are my family going back to 1870.

If my daughter had been assaulted and injured by an adult male I would tell her to take whatever measures to protect herself

The problem is she had them on her the day of the confrontation. So just why had she left the house with them?

NoNever · Yesterday 18:18

Grammarnut · Yesterday 12:33

Why on earth was the girl carrying a knife and an axe? That is surely illegal?

Because the adult authorities in her life were more likely to protect her attackers and label her as a racist and delinquent than protect her, as was shown by the police statement blaming her at the time. Much like the police wanted to blame Henry Nowak in a statement his family had to fight not to have released.

NoNever · Yesterday 18:23

Yes, the police have such a great track record of believe white working class girls who complain of assault, rape, injury.

In this very case, the police put out a statement blaming her.

YourAmplePlumPoster · Yesterday 18:24

Yet another example of very poor policing, delay in apprehending criminals and victim blaming of young girls by the media and social media in which YOU participated Julie Bindel and Kathleen Stock. I'll never read another word by either of them again and please boot them off The Spectator.
