and further to this, "about 1 in 100 insured youth ages 8 to 17 in the Pacific Northwest state were diagnosed with gender dysphoria". How is this not ringing alarm bells amongst medical professionals, parents and teachers? Its a disaster waiting to happen.

Over 1 in 250 Natal Girls Were Taking Testosterone By Age 17 in Oregon, From 2016 to 2023

This rate, from a study of data about insured adolescents in Oregon, represents an average over this period. Given swift increases in hormone uptake over time, the rate was likely much higher by 2023.

Horrendous social contagion.

moto748e · 09/06/2026 18:10

I wonder if the situation is any different in 'red' States?

on the upside, they are building of an army of people who will crush this ideology when they wake up and the mists part, realizing they were lied to and their bodies were majorly harmed.

Waitingfordoggo · 10/06/2026 01:14

That’s true @dinodart, but awful that it has to entail so much harm inflicted on the victims of the ideology, for people in power and institutions to realise what a horror show this all is. It is infuriating when so many feminists have been shouting about this for such a long time, and receiving horrendous abuse for pointing out the obvious contagion in girls and young women; the comorbidities they are presenting with; and the harm they are suffering.

Waitingfordoggo · 10/06/2026 01:19

Thank you for sharing OP- I’m absolutely horrified. I’ve been to Oregon and it’s a beautiful state, but if anywhere in the States was going to have these sort of alarming stats, it would be Oregon.

'Insured youth'? Someone is making a fortune.

Most kids are on their parents health insurance and stay on it until 25 or 26

Many red states have limited or banned access to cross sex hormones for minors, and going by experience, the parents would be way less likely to go along with it than someone in Portland for example. Oregon is probably one of the most extreme examples of the left wholeheartedly embracing this and other insane policies.

This from Wikipedia about the East Germany doping programme: "While figures cannot be precise, the state-inspired doping program affected perhaps as many as 10,000 athletes. Not only was cheating at the center of the program, but so was the abuse of the athletes' health. Female athletes, including adolescents, experienced vitalisation symptoms, and possibly as many as 1,000 sportsmen and women suffered serious and lasting physical and psychological damage"

It's worse in Red states because their parents have insulated them to such a degree that they're ordering them Chinese lab chemicals from cat hair-infested Brazilian MTF hovels while telling them if they don't escape to a sanctuary city, they'll be put in an ICE camp. Three houses in my meth-infested neighborhood are loudly dealing with this, and the journalists in my city, which is struggling with homelessness, violent crime, gangs, and rotting bridges and highways, are singularly focused on the issue, as is our mayor.

Then, I'm in a Blue city in an infamously Red state. Places like this will be outliers, but I'm also aware of people buying up parcels of land out west to take up commune life (think Tenacious Unicorn, with less FTM field slaves and mass animal graves).

If y'all have been following the Zizians and the murders connected to them, expect more of the same when hospitals stop youth gender medicine.

This is horrific, those poor children, scarred for life because they were daft teenagers. It being the US I don’t think this will stop until the detransitioners have won enough cases to stop Medicare and the insurance companies funding this (though even then, as PP says, desperate families will go to the online back street dealers).

My heart breaks for these children.

WhatterySquash · 10/06/2026 08:51

I’m actually surprised it’s as low as 1 in 250. A much higher rate wouldn’t have shocked me in Oregon. Don’t most stats say at least 1% of people are trans-ID-ing and it’s disproportionately higher among teens?

Not that anyone should be treating body dysphoria issues with opposite sex hormones IMO, but this seems low to me.

AnnaMagnani · 10/06/2026 08:57

Could someone who knows the area explain why specifically Oregon is so hard hit by this?

Super woke extreme liberals (to use the American parlance) who will never admit that maybe trump is right about this one thing. That's it.

Downtown Portland has pretty much been destroyed with open drug use and homelessness due to their policies, such as decriminalization of drugs and tolerance of shoplifting, homelessness and other anti social behaviour in the pursuit of "being kind"

Portland is still a fading, declining city

Portland is in decline, with the city costing too much for families and proving too unsafe for too many residents.

These kinds of policies and approaches are also undermining wider society beyond Oregon because they offer a kernel of truth, vastly inflated, to the likes of Musk or Trump or Alex Karp in his 22 point manifesto when he argues for a techno fascist surveillance state saying that the wokerati cannot be relied upon to keep the US safe. It’s a tiny grain of sand that provides the fuel for his brand of extremism. One fuels the other. None of it good.
