I'm sure she meant to add "actual women" alongside "trans allies", so let's get writing!

Email [email protected] with your thoughts on the EHRC Code of Practice.

"Your voice is needed."

UNISON general secretary Andrea Egan is calling on members and trans allies to oppose the EHRC guidance.

MPs will decide on it in the next 30 days.

Tell us why it's unworkable in your workplace."

From an article by Janet Murrey

Take Unison, which has around 1.3million members, the majority of them women. Its current general secretary, Andrea Egan, was elected with just 58,579 votes – around 4.2 per cent of eligible voters. Which means many women will be unaware that their current union leader is actively campaigning against their sex-based rights.

Maybe someone should email AE the facts above and politely point out that as 3/4 of the membership are women she should stop actively fighting to have their rights removed, even if her niece is 'trans'.

I’ve already sent her a very long email pointing out the bleedin’ obvious!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/06/2026 17:33

Ah her with the trans man niece is still stuck on broadcast mode then!

She's done a new video post with the comments turned off from the start 😆

I work in a Unison branch so I’ve emailed [email protected] to ask which law they’re suggesting should be changed and if they’re planning an equality impact assessment. Strangely they haven’t answered yet. I only wanted them to clarify before I email all our members for their feedback.
I do hope they get lots and lots of feedback although they seemed to have hidden most of the comments on the Facebook and bluecry posts and turned of replies altogether on twitter 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for doing that, I hope others follow your lead, the more resistance inside the union, the less chance they have of claiming to be fighting on behalf of the membership. 👏

Agree. But heroine is the word and has been erased under pretext of equality. But not having 'heroine' erases women - part of the foundation work to remove woman as a sex-based term and replace it with gender?

Delegates at UNISON's local government conference passed a landmark motion titled 'defending trans, non-binary and gender diverse rights in local government workplaces', with passionate speeches drawing repeated applause from the conference floor and not a single vote cast against the motion.

Speakers warned that if the EHRC's proposals become embedded in law, the consequences for trans and gender diverse workers across local government could be profound. "If this guidance is allowed to harden into law, the consequences for our members will be severe," delegates heard.

According to AI of the few speeches against the motion:

  • Focus on Single-Sex Spaces: The arguments heavily focused on the preservation of single-sex facilities. One delegate explicitly argued in favour of keeping spaces strictly for biological women, stating: “I do like the idea of women only spaces, it feels like a bloke's taken over being a woman now.”
  • Formal Apology: The rhetoric used in the opposing speeches caused immediate friction on the conference floor. The conference chair intervened and forced the delegate who made the statement regarding "women-only spaces" to issue a formal apology to the assembly.

hello, hello, fuckwits!! The law IS the law, the guidance merely explains the law

happy to help as you all seem determined to be to stupid to understand this

WhereAreWeNow · Today 06:23

Surely Unison must employ a legal team. They must have staff who understand the law and the role of the EHRC and can explain it to the general secretary.

Did they say if they managed to stay between the lines, or was just big blotches of scribble. 😂

Tell us, not if it's workable or how it could be made to work for everyone but why it's unworkable.

Your mile-wide agenda is showing, mate. And your complete ignorance of the law.

Glad I'm not entrusting my workplace rights to these clowns.

and not a single vote cast against the motion.

It continues to be heartening how little support the regressive "gender critical" movement has any time these issues are actually put to a vote or consultation.

Or:

  • It continues to provide further proof of how strong the self-preservation instinct is, when putting your head above the parapet gets it shot off.

  • It continues to provide proof that when you've winnowed out all the moderate voices, the vote does tend to become quite one-sided (see also, the Greens, the BMA, etc etc etc).

Yes, yes, I'm sure the fact that no one agrees with you is somehow proof that everyone agrees with you.

Speaking of the Greens, their membership and electoral success has absolutely rocketed since they've taken an openly trans-supportive stance, can you manage to twist that as proof that everyone secretly supports you too? Is it possible to be so scared to put your head above the parapet that you accidentally join the Green party?
