Kenyan High Court compels government to introduce gender self-id

Sad to see Kenya importing the same regressive ideology that has been so harmful to women's rights in Western countries.

After more than a decade of legal battles, humiliating airport interrogations and daily struggles with official documents, activist Audrey Mbugua Ithibu has secured a landmark High Court victory against the State over recognition of transgender persons in Kenya.

The High Court on Wednesday ruled that refusing to amend gender markers in official identification documents of transgender persons breaches the constitutional rights.

It ordered government agencies, including the Registrar of Births and Deaths, to begin receiving and considering applications for gender-marker changes within 60 days.

That's how it started here, a man who wouldn't take no for an answer sued the government. Kenya has a terrible record on protecting women and children, this man has probably got more rights than they have now. 😞

Misogynistic regressive country enacts misogynistic regressive law. Another reason not to go to Kenya as a woman and a mother of a daughter.

I wonder if it's linked to the extreme homophobia. A bit like Iran.
