Labour leadership hopefuls must be radical feminists - Harriet Harman

The Labour peer said women in her party should seek to use the turmoil engulfing Sir Keir Starmer to advance their own demands of the Government.

Lady Harman said Sir Keir and “any other of the men who fancy themselves to be prime minister” should “sign up to a radical feminist agenda”, adding: “Because they’re worried that if they don’t, one of the others will. So I think that’s our quest for the moment.”

Sir Keir has come under fire from senior women in Labour and Lady Harman was one of his leading critics over his handling of the Mandelson scandal.

In February, Lady Harman suggested that the Prime Minister appoint a senior woman as his de facto deputy to oversee a “complete culture change” in No 10.

(Not sure this is "radical feminism" but more just basic equality for women !)

No one in government is a radical feminist

lornad00m · 27/05/2026 21:12

Harman's idea of a radical feminist is being a lickspittle for men who wear frocks.

inkymoose · 27/05/2026 21:13

Hmmm
Perhaps the term "radical feminist" is as impossible to define without months and months and years of arguments, counter-arguments and obfuscation, as the term "woman" ?

I don't think Harriet Harman knows what one is, anyway.

JanesLittleGirl · 27/05/2026 22:32

Harriet Harmon's idea of radical feminism is asking the lads if they would like another brew.

She has slithered through the cracks of Labour mysogeny to her advantage aad the disadvantage of women for her whole career. Fuck her and fuck the horse she rode into town on.

This Harriet Harman?
"Women are women who are born women, but women are also women who are trans women."

It is such a disconnect with real life.

Radical feminism, which has many strands, but is based on the reality that women as a sex class are discriminated against the sex class on men.

I was trying to imagine had giving a speech to the Labour Party about the many examples in the Labour Party that show how much actual radical feminism it needed in the Party.

This Harriet Harman?
"Women are women who are born women, but women are also women who are trans women."

....said no radical feminist, ever!

Thanks for the link, I'm predisposed to think the exact opposite of anything this particular person says. She's a good example of all that is wrong with the left at the moment, a very useful idiot indeed. 😤

"Cabinet ministers, including Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary, and Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, have also broken ranks to attack a “boys’ club culture” at the heart of Downing Street."

Says the women who are turning feminism into a boys club. 🤬

Harriet Harman wouldn't know a radical feminist if she snuck up behind her and whacked her over the head with a Tunnocks Teacake.

Justusethebloodyphone · 28/05/2026 07:46

And here in lies Labours problem.

Ideology comes way way in front of the job they were voted in to do. Run the effing country. How about that?

Apologies I know this is not what the debate here is about and yes Harriet Harman is a waste of political space as far as women are concerned but I’d support anyone right now who had a clue about economics and growth and lifting the country out of its current mess rather than supporting only those sectors of the population you deem worthy (am a Labour voter).

And would then be a terrible waste of a Teacake!

Shock

The call for a woman leader of the Labour Party is a bit rich coming from Harman. She had at least 3 opportunities to stand for the leadership herself (2007, 2010, 2015) but bottled it every time. Unlike, for example, Yvette Cooper, Diane Abbott, Liz Kendall…
