A Private Member’s Bill to amend the Sex Discrimination Act was introduced in Australian Parliament by Alison Penfold MP. She gave a 10 minute speech and the last minute included words from Sall Grover. It was powerful. It was so refreshing to hear common sense about women’s rights, sex and gender being spoken about publicly without it being shut down.

Fuck Julia Gillard’s famous misogyny speech. She betrayed women by approving the 2013 amendments that took away women’s rights. Let’s replace it with this one.

Speech is here from 35 mins to 46 mins.

@Keeptoiletssafe The toilet thing is ridiculous. Apparently the solution to not having enough toilets for women will be solved by providing less dedicated women-only toilets and instead having a bunch of them as unisex. Yuck.

Apologies for the swearing but there’s a phrase ‘Fck about, find out’. If they fck about with design, they will find out exactly why every other mixed sex, private design has problems globally. But by then, they’ll be casualties. It’s stupid and dangerous. It also appears to be listed by the EHRC as a solution here.

India are leading the way academically on this. Researchers found school girls wouldn’t use unisex toilets due to the rape risks. They have changed laws to make sure toilets are single sex, for girls at school.

Amnesty etc used to promote building girls toilets to get girls into school. I sponsored a set in Africa via Plan. They didn’t promote unisex toilets. Because they knew (or used to know) better.

(Obviously unisex means mixed sex in the above - I am using their terminology).

Having had a think, what she is possibly inferring is discrimination by perception of sex. If a TW looked enough like a female they may be asked but realistically that comes down to people being able to hide their biological sex in the first place.

I thought that too but, if that is what she meant, she had the opportunity to make it clear, and didn't take it.

Here’s the full video of the interaction between Michaelia Cash and the Sex Discrimination Commissioner Anna Cody. First is the Australian Human Rights Commission president Hugh de Kretser. He comes out with some bullshit too. Starts at 6hrs 28mins.

There’s some very interesting definitions and explanations in the video.
