Written Statement made by: Secretary of State for Education and Minister for
Women and Equalities (Bridget Phillipson) on 21 May 2026:

I have approved the draft Code submitted on 4 September 2025 and as updated by the EHRC in April 2026 following engagement with government and their consideration of consultation responses and further legal analysis.
The current Code was produced in 2011 and there have been significant developments since then, including the Supreme Court ruling in For Women Scotland, resulting in the EHRC wanting to update the Code.
Following last year’s Supreme Court ruling, the draft Code’s content on sex and gender reassignment has changed substantially from the 2011 version. The ruling made it clear that sex means biological sex for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010 and that trans people are still protected by the Act under the protected characteristic of ‘gender reassignment’.

Plenty of people setting her straight there, but I'm sure it goes in one ear and out the other.

Once again I am going to ask if trans people (usually men) are excluded from so many things, where are the Employment Tribunals and Court cases?

Why do I mostly see women's names, and women being discriminated against?

Is this a Prayer Motion or just a straightforward regular Early Day Motion?

Apparently there hasn’t been a successful Fatal Prayer motion in the Commons since the 1970s!!

That would be because there's nothing in-between to stop it, nevermind slow it down.

What is the point of the motion? Is it to ensure she, and other objectors, are on the record?

Why not file a prayer motion? Even if it is likely to be unsuccessful, it is the process to actually stop the guidance - whereas the current motion filed won’t do that?

Nadia must know that and must have her reasoning for choosing this.

I think it is just posturing, they can say they did something whilst not actually doing something that will likely be defeated

This sort of behaviour infuriates me, not just with respect to TiMs. If you genuinely believe something is wrong then make the case why you think it's wrong.

On these threads we have asked time and time again what discrimination have you as TiM suffered and no answer comes. Or possibly that they might feel endangered in the Gents. But not a single thought about why it follows that the correct action is not to make women feel endangered.

It doesn't alter the fact that the law is still the law.
