Also in politics thread. Someone also needs to tell them it's sex not gender.

There have been news stories about this on other threads.

The problem was they listed some of the new MSPs by their claimed identity, and then got complaints that this contravened the Supreme Court Ruling.

So rather than comply with the ruling and make the new MSPs list themselves by their actual sex (or even sex with a *?) they have erased the whole facility to search by sex, or see whether sex is equally represented in the new Scottish Parliament.

So as usual this tiny group of people are demanding we should live by their rules.

There seems no end to it.

For Women Scotland have written about this and asked for anyone interested / concerned to make a complaint.

See https://forwomen.scot/19/05/2026/invisible-women/

Excellent. That shows exactly how stupid the situation is.

Women must be properly counted amid sex data jumble

It is time for the powers that be to acknowledge the importance of data collection on sex, writes Professor Alice Sullivan

"Holyrood to restore MSP gender search" I'm pretty sure it's a search by sex but it is the BBC. MSPs can choose not to disclose their sex online but I'm assuming it will still be used for statistical purposes.

So Mannivan and Duane will have to be listed as men? I look forward to that.

We wish. I think the best we can hope for us that (a) the records are indeed by sex not self-identified gender and (b) this means M and D request no public disclosure. There's precedent for this: the public data feed backing the website includes an age field with an option for "age withheld". Some MSPs use that, some don't.

'MSP's will be asked whether they "consider themselves to be trans", defined as "people whose gender is not the same as the sex they were registered at birth".
They are also asked to detail their trans status. The survey uses examples of "non-binary, trans man, trans woman".
It finally asks for their consent to "process the data" for publication on the Scottish Parliament website and to be held by its internal systems.
Members have the option not to consent to their sex or trans status being published online.
In that situation, their information would be listed as "undisclosed".'

Hmm.

It doesn't appear that that will display an MSP's sex, does it?

We'll be told their 'gender' and whether they consider themselves to be trans.

It's certainly extremely unclear! Having it passed through the language mangler that is BBC News reporting only adds confusion. I think we can only wait to see what changes actually turn up on the website and the data portal (which has historically been more detailed).

Each and every attempt to replace the word 'sex' with the word 'gender' is a deeply cynical attack on language, truth, and women. They can fuck right off with that.

Parliamentary authorities have now told MSPs that the public has a “legitimate interest in understanding the sex and, as appropriate, trans status of their elected representatives”.

All members have now been asked to complete a diversity survey disclosing their sex and telling officials whether or not the identify as transgender.

Not sure that that will not have its intent flouted as it allows those who say you can change sex will just say their sex is the one they identify with.
