I learn that Southward, where I do not live, has had a major change in the council with no overall control. I wonder if it might be a good time to get Miranda back into the leisure centres she pays for.
After she spoke truth ro power and was told to F off,

Big shake ups in various wards. Not going to say more as it might be identifying.

I will need to email the incumbent team to highlight the issue down at The Castle to them.

I got a scolding for being discriminatory from the MPs office (labour) when I asked for help with NHS non-compliance with FWS recently (single sex wards/ changing spaces) which didn't reassure me about the levels of activism locally

Was that Neil Coyle’s office? A while ago I got multiple email brush offs from his office but when I went to see him at his surgery he was pretty GC. So if it is him, try to see him in person.

Wasn't it Southwark who refused to rent a venue to a lesbian group because they weren't going to be inviting any men?

BeaTwix · 10/05/2026 21:51

@MissMaryBennet I suspect it was Neil's staff who wrote the email.

But these are often the guys who work locally in my experience at council level so the fact they felt confident sending out something that basically told me I was being discriminatory for asking for the law to be upheld told me how entrenched their views are.

And doesn't inspire much hope about getting single sex spaces back into schools, leisure centres and public buildings.

Neil Coyle has a remarkable ability to agree with anyone who goes to see him, while simultaneously pointing out the "complexities and difficulties" - so not actually agreeing with you, while you think he has

Possibly not. Southwark has elected lots of Green councillors and more Lib Dems. I wouldn’t hold out hope.
