Catherine West is my MP. Several years ago I wrote to ask her view on women's sex-based rights. Received a cut and paste stock Labour party reply waffling about inclusion.

Write and ask her again.

Good idea.

She seems to think that all that is needed is a ‘better communicator’ than KS - as if it isn’t his disastrous policies and many political failings at fault, just the PR.

A bit like Lucy Powell’s emphasis on ‘narrative management’ in her Deputy PM speech (although I think that bit got removed from online versions ironically) - they seem to think that if they keep telling us everything is good, it will make it so.

They genuinely seem to think we are all stupid.

I agree - well worth asking now, after the SC ruling. Previously she may have been unknowingly trotting out the party line. If she is still trotting it out now, that would have to be from a much less unknowing point of view.

Mine is still downloading his stock reply at every contact which is always the same three stages:

The most important thing about any rights for women is that they are first and foremost respectful to men. (This is about the point I gave up on him, the 1820s called and want him back when Kier's finished with him)

Labour policy is always right and perfect, yay Labour, here is a party political broadcast that has exactly fuck all to do with anything in your letter, which was apparently either unread or was over the head of the reader.

Anything wrong is the fault of bigger boys who did it and ran away in previous governments. So ner.

At this stage I could write it for him, and probably do a better job. Absolute drone.

It's what they're trying to do isn't it, not just narrative management but the micromanagement of everyone's lives, actions, habits, words, thoughts, they're control freaks on speed, otherwise known as totalitarian dictators. 😤

Yes, that seems to have been a defining characteristic of the Labour Party - they think they know better than us but aren’t quite so keen to apply the rules to themselves.

Big state, high regulation, endless micro management.

They don’t seem to have grasped the basics of running a country.

I'd write to her again.

Given the appalling council election results Labour are on the ropes.

I'd point out that you don't need a diatribe about inclusion. We're all inclusive. To a point. Your very specific concern relates to the sex-based rights of women and girls as referenced in the SC judgement.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/05/2026 14:42

Tbf she might never have seen it, a few years back these types of questions were being fobbed off by the MPs’ assistants.

Other than that, what do you think of her recent challenge?
