Labour is “weakening legal protections for women and girls” by failing to publish guidance safeguarding the right to single-sex spaces, a United Nations (UN) expert has warned.
Reem Alsalem, the UN’s special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, called on the Government to “walk the talk” on its support for women by releasing the guidance without delay.
In an article for The Telegraph, below, Ms Alsalem said access to women-only spaces was “central to safeguarding women’s safety, privacy and dignity, and to combating male violence against women and girls”.
She said it was a matter of “regret” that government departments, the NHS, the prison service, universities and schools were still failing to comply with the law.
