Steph Richards (TIM) again appointed to a position at endometriosis charity

Whatchamacallitt · 22/03/2026 21:59

The headline dishonestly implies that the issue with this appointment is because Richards is trans-identified, rather than because he is male. I wouldn't have any issue with a trans-identified woman affected by endometriosis being appointed. You'd think they would have learnt their lesson from last time when he was appointed CEO. If Richards and the charity gave a damn about women they would have taken on board the level of offence generated then.

Appointment of trans person as endometriosis representative ridiculed

The novelist Amanda Craig has criticised the appointment of Steph Richards, saying ‘it’s as ridiculous as white people speaking for black people’

I know this is the least of it, but I don't know any woman who would wear an off the shoulder top in a professional head shot. 🙈

This was exactly my first thought. No women dress like this.

Endometriosis is nearly always a condition experienced by people born with a uterus - mostly cis women but also trans men, intersex, non-binary.

A bit of internet searching suggests that endometriosis can, in very rare cases, occur in cis men, possibly due to elevated levels of oestrogen.

Anyone affected by this debilitating condition deserves proper diagnosis, treatment and care, which is what we should be focusing on, imho.

There is no reason to insult the female sex by calling us 'people born with a uterus'. There is no such thing as 'cis' women. We are not a subset of our own sex. Be careful because your posts can be deleted if you use that term. You're using all the buzzwords that show an inability to think outside capture.

Intersex are male or female and they've asked they not be weaponised in this debate. There is also no such thing as 'non-binary' as the default setting for humans is non-binary since none of us are 100% performative of our gender 100% of the time.

There are males, and females. That's it.
Re-wording your post "Endometriosis is nearly always a condition by females."
Shorter and more accurate.

Also might I add that there are reports of males experiencing endometrios-like symptoms, but not endometriosis itself. Why? Because endometriosis is an inflammation/disease of the Endometrium. The uterus. Males don't have a uterus.
endometrium/ˌɛndə(ʊ)ˈmiːtriəm/ nounAnatomy the mucous membrane lining the uterus, which thickens during the menstrual cycle in preparation for possible implantation of an embryo.

Now males don't have an endometrium.

Also, note what the respected Mayo Clinic says and note that it not once mentions males: Endometriosis - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

I think your ire is focused on women who make choices you don’t approve of.

I wonder, do you also think male doctors should not work in or study or teach obstetrics, gynaecology or health conditions that mainly affect women? Do you think males should be excluded from voting in parliament on related issues?

And here is a good answer seen elsewhere for the desperate 'what about male doctors' whataboutery:

"I’m surprised how many people cannot differentiate between a “representative” (shared experience) and a “medical expert”. I wouldn’t select a rapist to represent rape victims. I know this is extreme but you get the point. Where is the empathy and shared experience?"

weegielass · 26/03/2026 07:07

I agree this is offensive

I have no idea how "parody" got in there 🤣

Works fine in context though!

Haven't followed any of the links. Is this really a re-run of the debacle of a few years ago? We learned then that this is little more than a one woman charity, so Steph's claim to be CEO was puzzling. There was no money to change hands so it had to be all about validation for Steph, who as I recall has no obvious experience or qualifications to merit a post with that title.

Looks like it. But Steph seems to have a friendly MP who is happy to propose him as an expert on endometriosis. It's so offensive to women who struggle to get a diagnosis and treatment.

WittyLimeBiscuit · 06/04/2026 08:25

Bumping this up in light of Steph's announcement that he is stepping down from Translucent to sue the Labour Party.
Would be a good time to step down from this role too, but no, he attaches himself to women's health charities and campaigns to promote his own agenda

Is his MP 'friendly' or 'petrified of him'?

These men cannot be told No.

He’s quit. He’s decided Women’s Action Network Portsmouth is more worthy of his attention.

I wonder if he actually did any parliamentary advising? Maybe it was all just pre publicity for his court case.

Yes, the way it reads is unintentionally funny. Because it's so blatantly true!

Imdunfer · 16/04/2026 07:26

We do have reality breaking out all over the place I think. But it didn't stop trans activists stopping a meeting about the harm that porn is doing to women. Seemingly purely because the organisers, authors of a book about porn, are instrumental in an organisation that supports LGB only people.

Steph stepping down is reported in the Beeb

Trans woman leaves role with Portsmouth women's health charity - BBC News https://share.google/SrZruz3GJyxzSf1yV

Usual use of obfuscation by the BBC, pronouns observed scrupulously, although they did accurately report Braverman calling him a man. I'm left with the feeling that newcomers might be completely at sea as to what has actually happened.

Darker · 17/04/2026 08:54

When you are agreeing with Suella Braverman like it’s a good think.

Steph’s pronouns are she/her, whatever you think.

CassOle · 17/04/2026 08:58

Steph doesn't 'own' words, and Steph - or any anonymous internet poster - cannot control what language I use or make me call a man anything other than a man.

the Brimscombe venue said it had been contacted by members of the public with concerns regarding the event

What members of the public might that have been I wonder 🤔

I will move in your direction as far as calling Steph Steph and using them/their to help a fellow human lessen their discomfort from their body dysmorphia. I would have to know them very well and like them a lot before I could feel comfortable calling a male she.

I’ll agree or disagree with someone based on the facts of the case and their argument, not on who they are or their opinions on other things that I may or may not agree with.
