Moby: what a bellend

Had to laugh at Moby going out of his way to flag up his brave culture warrior credentials by dragging Lola by The Kinks all the way up from 1970 so he could claim it was gross and transphobic.
Especially as the song is actually affectionate, bittersweet, honest, has a great tune, not transphobic and absolutely craps on most of Moby's output from a great height.

See especially chapter 95, 'The Cassock'.

It's only 11.24, but you've already won the Most Cryptic Post of the Day - for me anyway😏

DierdreDaphne · 23/03/2026 11:29

Oh God yes, the combination of steaming arrogance ' "unevolved" whereas I, now, am of course the peak of evolution '*

And actually failing to understand the possibility that the song is a sweet tale of a young man coming to terms with his homosexuality by falling in love. (Probably not what the TRA Kinks fans are hearing but atill...)

And dare I say it, failing to understand the possibility that men adopting a female appearance in the 1970s may have a (historic?) component of gay men wanting to express their sexuality in a way that made sense in the days when homosexuality was a crime.

But no Moby, of course yours is the only valid voice to pronounce on any person in any era.

*Reminds me of AAMilne s poem 'now we are six'

"Now we are (202)6 we're as clever as clever..."

What a nobber he is

ChaToilLeam · 23/03/2026 11:36

Moby is a sanctimonious prick who really needs to sit down and reflect on his creepy behaviour towards women far too young for him. Lola is a brilliant song.

That chapter of MD is basically a dick joke... one of the whalers uses skin taken from a dead whale's 'private parts' to make a kind of robe/apron for himself.

SisterTeatime · 23/03/2026 12:09

Moby Dickhead.

Lola is such a great song - and the line Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man. but I know what i am and im glad im a man and so is Lola

its one of the best lyrics ever written IMHO

Wasn't it Moby that wrote about much younger actress in his biography and received a huge backlash? He said that they were dating, she responded by saying that they had never dated but that she had been upset by his creepy behaviour towards her?

Yes, Natalie Portman is the actress

shne you didn’t title this
Moby: Dick.

Excellent Grin

Anyone not got an earworm?Hmm

Looks like this was in reply to an interview Q, and this was just one Q.

And yet you felt the need to make a discussion thread on it? Slow days in the world of trans people news?

Ah I see - thank you! You can still have your Cryptic Post of the Day Award🏆, and I get the Unfamiliarity with the Chapters of Moby Dick Award🏅Smile

I don’t know whether Dave Davies does his Twitter himself but there’s something about a nearly 80 year old hitting straight back online, batting away some nonsense that’s made me smile.

I thought it was great that Dave defended Ray. Back in the day he liked to knock lumps off him!

Sorry you felt you had to make this grumpy comment!😒
But since you're here - what's your fave Kinks song, Christinapple?

And here you are, commenting.....😂

Shedmistress · 23/03/2026 14:15

Not gonna lie I'd love a slow day in the 'world of trans people's news'.

Someone DM me if it ever happens.

Weeelokthen · 23/03/2026 14:16

MarieDeGournay · 22/03/2026 19:54

Well that could have gone either way - I thought maybe he had quoted it as proof that transwomen have 'always been here'!

edited to add that 'Moby - what a bellend' could have have various explanations too😄

Edited

😂
Love that song

LilyYeCarveSuns · 23/03/2026 14:21

Love his music, not surprised he's a wanker.
Friends and I once spend a happy drunken night writing a 21st century version of Lola in which the protagonist picks up a trans woman but never actually gets his rocks off because they just lecture him all night.
The only line I remember is,
"I'm not the world's most passionate guy but when she moved onto Butler I started to cry
LLLola..."
(spelling and grammar edit)

Brilliant😂😂😂
I want to be one of your friends😁

Brilliant song; a classic
"Moby" Richard Hall needs to get his own house in order before criticising

DontStopMe · 23/03/2026 16:16

I've never really paid much attention to Moby and I don't think I'll start now. The Kinks, however, were awesome. So many fantastic songs.

Loads of earworms. Including their other famous ' gay ' song See My Friends. What an awesome group they were. Poor old Mouldy. I don't know what to say mate. Maybe come out as Trans?

It's funny how you always seem to make the choice to read and comment on threads like this and completely ignore others...

Yeah, I did have Lola playing in my head but it’s now been replaced by Sound Of Da Police by KRS-1
’Whoop whoop!’
