I can't recall exactly but I'm pretty sure in a thread on a previous case there was a comment quoted from someone in the police basically saying that if they jailed every man who had this kind of material they'd run out of prison space within days , it's sadly that widespread.

That's the way that the offence is legally described. It doesn't mean he literally made the images just that he made a copy of them when he downloaded them.

Please don't think that I am trying to offer some sort of mitigation for the piece of shit - 15 years wouldn't be unreasonable in my opinion but the offence of making an indecent image actually does mean downloading an existing image rather than creating a new image.

Society should be protecting children. Not the feelings of adults.

I saw this in the local paper (chroniclelive) this morning. Sadly, these are weekly events, none of them look our through bars, the first time they are caught.

The usual progression is that they then get a last chance suspended sentence, then actual jail. Once they've been in, they frequently get caught again, with illegal devices, or moving without telling the authorities.

Just jail the bastards first time.
