James Bubb, now Gwyn Samuels, has been held in a male prison and will remain there, the court heard.

The 28-year-old from Chesham, Buckinghamshire, was also found guilty of raping a young woman he met online while posing as a 16-year-old girl.

The former special constable was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday to a total of 32 years, made up of 24 years' imprisonment and a further eight years on extended licence.

The 28-year-old identified as male at the time of the offences and was referred to by male pronouns throughout the trial at Amersham Law Courts.

During sentencing, Judge Jonathan Cooper said that since the defendant had transitioned, they should be known by their new identity of Gwyn Samuels.

(Cant believe the dog's dinner that MN's AI title generator made of this!)

A custody image of James Bubb, facing forward with blank expression, in a grey T-shirt and he has a ginger beard and pale face.

I see that the BBC refers to him as they/their, should I consider it progress that the BBC hasn't referred to him as a woman?

Have to say it was the BBC admiting that the crime had been committed by a man who now identified as a woman that first make me aware of the court case.

So maybe a bit of progress as do think not that long ago they would have avoided mentioning it.

But was sorry to see in the news report that the Judge said that Bubb should be referred to by his female name.

Female name don't think so cunts got a beard and a penis
Therefore he's male!!

GinaWhoLikesADrink · 20/03/2026 19:26

So he was "posing" as a girl before, but now he's a genuine "woman" is he? FFS, why can't these people hear how stupid it sounds? He's a man and he's taking the piss. It's really not that hard to understand!

SigourneyHoward · 20/03/2026 19:39

First of all, thoughts with the two victims (and possibly others) I hope they are well supported now and in the future.

On reporting, interestingly the Guardian have gone with "the defendant" or 'they' mostly and made the point that at trial he was referred to as per biological sex but Judge changed at sentencing.

"Throughout the trial the defendant was referred to by their biological sex but during the first sentencing hearing last week, the judge said that since they have transitioned, they should be known by their new identity of Gwyn Samuels"

However, the Guardian did let slip with a 'he' and it wasn't a quote. I suppose they could argue that they were reporting what the court heard and they heard 'he/him" but their steadfast use of surname/defendant/they in the rest of the article made this 'his' jump out

"The court heard that Samuels befriended his second victim online while posing as a 16-year-old girl. The defendant was convicted of raping her during a subsequent on-off relationship between January 2018 and February 2023"

SigourneyHoward · 20/03/2026 19:41

BBC also got a 'he' in too...
"The 28-year-old from Chesham, Buckinghamshire, was also found guilty of raping a young woman he met online while posing as a 16-year-old girl."

SabrinaThwaite · 20/03/2026 19:44

What’s the betting he’s decided to ‘transition’ so that he gets a special treatment in prison.

CousinBette · 20/03/2026 19:55

Which jail?

I suppose given how captured the Guardian has been many of the staff are sitting there getting het up about checking that the words they were trained to use, now have to be not used.

Can only hope over a period of time the mass indoctrination at the Guardian, BBC etc., starts writing and publishing articles that are correct and not a gesture towards the reverse language oppression by the rainbow coalition.

Incredible isn't it ? We're hoping that the BBC, Grauniad etc start reporting facts rather than lies and delusions.
Just shows how transactivism trashes everything it touches when this is what we aspire to 😑

SwirlyGates · 20/03/2026 20:39

Nice long sentence though, which makes a change for rapists.

I couldn't say. However, it will be a men's prison. The Prison Service guidance changed in 2023 (IIRC) to advise that transwomen offenders with violent or sexual offences would go to male prisons.

TIF offenders will always go to female establishments, partly because they rarely pass but also because prisoners are not woke and know a female person when they see one. No governor would accept that risk.

Yes it was stated in the article that he would go to a men's prison.

I thought they probably wont anounce it as it would give time in the prison for feeling about him to get hold.

Identifying as a woman after committing sexual assault or rape is becoming a well work path.

BeSpoonyTurtle · 21/03/2026 08:00

How many of these creeps are there in the police?
You have to wonder what the screening processes are like.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 21/03/2026 08:35

BBC and Guardian clearly want to differentiate between "real" TW who are women and "rapist gender" TW, allowing them to continue with the overall sexist insult that TW can be W.

Next step will be another TRA flip: "it's always been TERFs who say rapists who call themselves women are TW. Genuine genderists have never said that, they've always said we need to be careful not to let fake TW in to women's spaces"

Yep, arrest onset gender dysphoria only lasts for as long as it brings benefits. No women's prison, no cross-dressing.

HortiGal · 22/03/2026 08:05

He’s not transitioned, he’s claiming to be a woman, to me transitioned is when they’ve had surgery, meds etc not just saying it.

Nobody has ever 'transitioned to the opposite sex'.

Chersfrozenface · 22/03/2026 08:19

Ironically, in Wales almost everyone would assume that someone called Gwyn Samuels was a man. What with Gwyn being a man's name. The feminine equivalent is Gwen.

There is the name Gwyneth, but it's uncommon nowadays. And even if nicknamed Gwyn, which would be rarer still, any Gwyneth would use her full name in most contexts.

You'd be surprised (or probably not). There are lots of transwomen in the sex offender prisons. They affirm each other...

I agree with you.
I think this is already starting to happen.
